Preview: MA One-Day Series @ Univ. of Maryland GC

On July 15, 2017 the Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour will play the Middle Atlantic One-Day Series event at the University of Maryland’s golf course.  The course is home to the men’s and women’s Terps golf teams and will return as a tour stop of the PKBGT.  One-day tournaments are University of Maryland GCdesigned for golfers of all skill levels, but are a great place for development golfers to “get in to the swing of things” playing tournament golf.  The goal of One-Day Open Series events is to provide a fun and friendly tournament on a premium golf course.  The tournament features a field of 35 players and will include the Prep, Futures, and Discovery Series.

Featured in the Prep Series is Hannah Hankim (Potomac, MD 2021) and Anna Moore (Wilmington, NC 2018). Hankim is currently ranked 10th on the Prep MA One-Day Series Order of Merit and has finished 2nd place in her last two MA One-Day Series appearances. Moore is currently ranked T68 in the Prep NC One-Day Series Order of Merit and finished top-10 at the Precision Junior Girls’ Championships at Bryan Park in Greensboro, NC. They look to continue their success at the MA One-Day Series at University of Maryland GC.

Featured in the Futures Series Sue Lee (Lorton, VA 2022), Vynie Chen (Centreville, VA 2020), and Emma Chen (Derwood, MD ).  Sue is currently ranked 1st on the Futures MA Series Order of Merit and finished in 3rd place at her last MA One-Day Series at Shenandoah Valley GC.  Vynie is currently ranked T7 on the Futures MA Order of Merit and finished 2nd place at her last MA One-Day Series at Shenandoah Valley.  Emma is currently ranked 5th on the Futures MA Series Order of Merit and finished 3rd at her last MA One-Day Series at Augustine Golf Club. They look to continue their success at the MA One-Day Series at University of Maryland GC.

The Discovery Series features a field of six players from the Virginia,  Maryland, and DC area.  They will play 9-holes for the title and awards will be presented to the top-2 players in the Series.

The PKBGT has partnered with the Middle Atlantic PGA and will host events in Virginia and Maryland.  The series will feature three divisions: Prep, Futures, and Discovery.  On the day of each of the Middle Atlantic Series events, players are welcome to attend our “Introduction to Tournament Golf” workshops.  The workshops are designed to promote and increase participation among middle and high school age developmental female golfers.  Topics covered at the workshops will include learning to become comfortable playing competitive golf, learning basic rules of golf, and building confidence on the course.

Recap: 2017 LPGA-USGA Girls Golf Team Championship @ Chateau Elan GC

On Saturday, July 8, the 2017 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour concluded the LPGA-USGA Girls Golf Team Championship at Chateau Elan Golf Club in Braselton, GA. The event featured a field 21 players from different LPGA-USGA Girls Golf Programs across the country.

 

 

The second round of the event was a Best Ball format where each player plays her own ball and the lower score of the two players is the team score for each hole. In the Championship Division, Madison Branum (Lexington, SC 2018) and Jordan Guyton (Columbia, SC 2019) shot one under par with a score of 71 to place first with a two-day total of 153. In the Futures Division, Hannah Lindemann (Charlotte, NC 2021) and Shea Smith (Charlotte, NC 2022) shot three over par with a score of 75 to place first with a two-day total of 160. In the Discovery Division, Savannah Hawkins (Hurricane, WV 2024) and Taylor Sargent (Milton, WV 2023) shot two under par with a score of 34 to place first with a two-day total of 71.

Recap: Harn, Kue Win SC One-Day Series @ Columbia CC

On Saturday, July 8, the 2017 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the South Carolina One-Day Open Series at Columbia Country Club. The goal of One-Day Open Series events is to provide a fun and friendly tournament on a premium golf course. The event featured a field of 36 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour.

The Champion of the Prep Series was Michelle Harn (Charlotte, NC 2019), with a final score of 82 on the day. Just one stroke behind her, Molly Hardwick (Lexington, SC 2022) and Victoria Hall (Moore, SC 2018) both shot 83 on the day. A scorecard playoff determined second and third place. Victoria won the scorecard playoff taking second place, and Molly took third. A scorecard playoff also determined fourth place, and Mary-Kathryn Talledo (Blythewood, SC 2021) claimed the spot shooting an 86.

In the Futures Series, a sudden death playoff determined first place. Mattie Padgett (Seneca, SC 2023) and Ella Kue (Kings Mountain, NC 2023) both shot 81 on the day. Ella won the playoff, claiming first place. Mattie finished the day with second place. Just one stroke behind the leaders was Madison Lynn Dixon (Inman, SC 2023) shooting an 82, and finishing in third place. Coming in fourth place was Madelyn Richards (Blythewood, SC 2018) with a score of 83.

Our next South Carolina One-Day Series event is the SC One-Day Series @ The Carolina Country Club on July 22, 2017 in Spartanburg, SC. There is still time to register!

Preview: 2GG Apparel Championship @ Coastal Carolina

The PKBGT will be hosting the 2GG Apparel Championship on Saturday-Sunday, July 15-16, 2017 at Coastal Carolina University’s Hackler Course.  2GG Apparel, a sponsor of the PKBGT, was founded by MLB All-Star pitcher Russ Ortiz after his retirement in 2010.  Oritz is an avid golfer and 100% of the proceeds from 2GG Apparel are donated to charity.    

Featured in the Bell Series are Mallory Fobes (East Bend, NC 2019), Abigayle Hatcher (Roebuck, SC 2019), and Parker Melting (Mint Hill, NC 2018).  Fobes is currently ranked 33rd in the Bell National Division Series Order of Merit and placed T3 at the Precision Junior Girls’ Championships at Bryan Park.  Hatcher finished T16 in the Wolfpack Classic at NC State Lonnie Poole GC. Melting finished T16 in the PKBGT Open Championship presented by Bargray at the Country Club of Salisbury. They all look to continue their success next weekend at the 2GG Apparel Championship.

Featured in the Futures Series are Maria Atwood (Holly Springs, NC 2022), Loralie Cowart (Winston, GA 2021), and Danielle Buompastore (Hoover, AL 2018).  Atwood is currently ranked 3rd in the Futures National Division and clinched 1st place at the Wolfpack Classic.  Cowart is currently ranked 12th in the Futures National Division and was the Futures Champion at the PKBGT Open Championships. Buompastore is currently ranked T45 in the Futures National Division and finished T3 in the Precision Junior Girls’ Championships. Everyone looks to continue their success next weekend at the 2GG Apparel Championship.

Awards will be presented to the top six finishers in each Series, and all players will receive a jacket courtesy of 2GG Apparel!

Preview: Wolfpack Classic @ NC State’s Lonnie Poole GC

On Saturday-Sunday, July 1-2, the 2017 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour plays the Wolfpack Classic at Lonnie Poole Golf Course at NC State University in Raleigh, NC. Lonnie Poole, home to the North Carolina State University women’s golf teams is a demanding course for this two-day tournament. The event features a field 59 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour.

The Pep Series field features 33 golfers, highlighted by 6 of the top-25 players on the PKBGT Prep Series Order of Merit – NC. The field includes: Emelia Pack (Browns Summit, NC 2019) ranked 1st, Paris Fieldings (Suffolk, VA 2023) ranked 4th, Megan Kanaby (Chapel Hill, NC 2019) ranked 7th, Grace Huffman ( Lexington, VA 2018) ranked 8th, Victoria Ladd (Greensboro, NC 2019) ranked 13th, and Nicole Kramer (Charlotte, NC 2018) ranked 23rd.

The Futures Series field features 26 golfers, highlighted by a 8 of top-20 players on the 2017 PKBGT Futures Series Order of Merit – NC list, including: Macy Pate (Boone, NC 2023) ranked 2nd, Kayla Dowell (Mebane, NC 2021) ranked 3rd, Heather Appelson (Wake Forest, NC 2023) ranked 8th, Kayla Yang (Maiden, NC 2019) ranked 10th, Annabelle Millard (Indian Trail, NC 2022) ranked 11th, ranked T14 are Catherine Vivongsy (Wake Forest, NC 2021) and Grace Greene (Apex, NC 2019), Trinity Muthomi (Kernersville, NC 2022) is ranked T16, Grayson Warren (Washington, NC 2021) is ranked 18th.

The Wolfpack Classic brings together players from Alabama, California, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, and Virginia. It should be a great event!

Recap: Valaquenta, Warren, Tyler Win NC One-Day Series at MacGregor Downs CC

On June 26, 2017 the PKBGT played the North Carolina One-Day Series Event at MacGregor Downs CC in Cary, NC. The North Carolina One-Day tournaments are designed for golfers of all skill levels, but are a great place for development golfers to “get in to the swing of things” playing tournament golf. The goal of  North Carolina One-Day Series events is to provide a fun and friendly tournament on a premium golf course.

Winning the Prep One-Day NC Series was Greer Valaquenta (Morrisville, NC 2018) with her round of 4 over par 76. Greer played a steady round today carding a pair of 38’s to win by 5 shots. Finishing runner-up was Deborah Spair (Raleigh, NC 2020) with a round of 9 over par, 81. In third place today was Claire Patrick (Creedmoor, NC 2018) with a score of 84. Finishing in the fourth place spot was Kathryn Elliot (Coats, NC 2018) with a score of 85.

Winning the Futures One-Day NC Series was Grayson Warren (Washington, NC 2021) with her round of 82 on the day. Katelyn Kenthack (Pinehurt, NC 2020) and Macy Pate (Boone, NC 2023) tied, both scoring 85. A scorecard playoff determined 2nd and 3rd place winners. Katelyn took 2nd place and Macy took 3rd place. Just one shot back, rounding out the top four, was Anika Bhatnagar (Cary, NC 2020) scoring a 86.

Winning Discovery One-Day NC Series at Macgregor Downs is Brooke Tyler (Greensboro, NC 2024) with a score of 54. Finishing runner-up in the Discovery Series today was Sally Toalson (Advance, NC 2024)

Recap: Sambach, Muthomi Win the Precision Jr. Girls Championships at Bryan Park

On Thursday, June 22, the 2017 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the the final round of the PGS JR GIRLS CHAMPIONSHIP at Bryan Park Golf Course (Champions Course). Bryan Park, home to the University of North Carolina-Greensboro Spartans golf teams, is a fantastic venue for the fourth championship event of the season. The event features a field 50 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour.  

Winning the Bell Series is Amanda Sambach (Davidson, NC 2021) after back to back scores of 1-under, 71, for a total of 2-under 142. Finishing in second is Olivia John (Summerfield, NC 2018) after following her round of even par, 72 with a round of 76, for a total of 148. Finishing in a tie for 3rd is Hailey Joy (Reidsville, NC 2018) and Mallory Fobes (East Bend, NC 2019) with a two day total of 150. Rounding out the Top-5 was Tomita Arejola (Aliso Viejo, CA 2018) with a second round score of even par, 72, to move up the leaderboard on the final day.

PLAYOFF in the Futures Series!  We had a playoff between Hannah Nall (Cleveland, TN 2022) and Trinity Muthomi (Kernersville, NC 2022) after they tied at the end of regulation play with two day totals of 155. The playoff we back to hole 18 where Trinity hat a great second shot in and two putted for the win. Congratulations to both ladies for their great play this week! Finishing in a tie for 3rd was Sitting in 3rd Laney Wessels (Sophia, NC 2021)and Danielle Buompastore (Hoover, AL 2018) both with two day totals of 160. Rounding out the Top-5 was Macie Burcham (Greensboro, NC 2021) with a two day total of 164.

Update: Sambach, Nall Lead After Round 1 of Precision Jr. Girls Championships at Bryan Park

On Wednesday – Thursday, June 21-22, the 2017 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour plays the PGS JR GIRLS CHAMPIONSHIP at Bryan Park Golf Course (Champions Course). Amanda leads the pack shooting -1, 71 today. Olivia follows closely behind shooting even par, 72. In a three-way tie for third, just four strokes back of the lead are Hailey, Emelia, and Lotte shooting 75 today.

Leading the Futures Series is Hannah Nall (Cleveland, TN 2022) with a 74.  In sole second place with an 77 is Trinity Muthomi (Kernersville, NC 2022).  Sitting in 3rd place is Laney Wessels (Sophia, NC 2021) with a 78. Just one shot behind her is Danielle Buompastore (Hoover, AL 2018) with a 79.

We should have an exciting finish in both divisions!

Recap: Rathbone, Shin, Nguyen Win at Shenandoah Valley GC

On June 17, 2017 the Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the Middle Atlantic One-Day Series event at Shenandoah Valley GC, located in Front Royal, VA. One-day tournaments are designed for golfers of all skill levels, but are a great place for development golfers to “get in to the swing of things” playing tournament golf.  The goal of One-Day Series events is to provide a fun and friendly tournament on a premium golf course.  The tournament featured a field of 21 players and included the Prep, Futures, and Discovery Series.University of Maryland GC

Winning the Prep Series is Jessica Rathbone (Montpelier, VA 2020). Jessica finished her round today at 8 over par, 80. There was a two-way tie for second place, both players shooting 84. Hannah Hankim (Potomac, MD 2021) clinched second place. Finishing in third place was Hannah Jonely (Ashburn, VA 2020). Rounding out the top four was Alexis DiZinno (Alexandria, VA 2018) with a score of 86.

Winning the Futures Series was Julie Shin (Brambleton, VA 2022), with a score of 72. Finishing in second place with a score of 74 was Vynie Chen (Centerville, VA 2020). Finishing in third was Sue Lee (Lorton, VA 2022), who shot 77. Finishing in fouth place was Alice Zou (Potomac, MD 2022) with a score of 79.

Winning the Discovery Series was Josephine Nguyen (Springfield, VA 2024) with a score of 44 on nine holes. Finishing in second place was Katie Patterson (Washington, DC 2023) with a score of 51.

Recap: Talledo, Erwin, Kennedy Win at Woodside Plantation

On Saturday, June 17, the 2017 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the South Carolina One-Day Open Series at Woodside Plantation CC. The goal of One-Day Open Series events is to provide a fun and friendly tournament on a premium golf course. The event featured a field of 29 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour.

The Champion of the Prep Series was Mary Kathryn Talledo (Blythewood, SC 2021), firing a 79. She was followed Lauren Martin (Mooresville, NC 2020) with a score of  83. Rounding out the top three was Telie McCoy (Early Branch, SC 2019) with a 87. Finishing in fourth place was Jordan Kirkley (McBee, SC 2019) with a score of 98.

In the Futures Series, Olivia Erwin (Charleston, SC 2019) shot the low round of the day with a 78. Following her in second place with an 82 was Claire Owens (Charlotte, NC 2019). Rounding out the top-3 was Madelyn Richards (Blythewood, SC 2018) with an 84. Caleigh Noonan and Hallie Boles tied for fourth place. A scorecard playoff determined the winner. Caleigh Noonan (Greenville, SC 2021) claimed fourth place, with a score of 86.

In the Discovery Series, Alexandra Kennedy (Arden, NC 2026) came in 1st place with a score of 49 for 9 holes. Mia Andrade (Irmo, SC 2025) was runner-up, scoring a 57. Coming in 3rd place with a score of 66 was Danielle Harmon (Simpsonville, SC 2026).
