Moosa, Massengill lead after round 1 of Precision Jr. Girls

On Thursday, July 19, the 2012 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the first round of the PKBGT PGS JR GIRLS’ CHAMPIONSHIPS @ Bryan Park GC (Champions/Players). This is the 10th annual junior golf tournament that Precision Golf School has hosted. PGS has been a renowned golf school in Carolinas for over 23 years. Bryan Park GC (Champions/Players) are challenging courses for this two-day event. The event features a field of 61 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 400 members and 94 alumni in the collegiate ranks.

The Bell Division field features 40 players highlighted by five of the top 10 players on the 2012 PKBGT Order of Merit lists. After round one, Madison Moosa (Charlotte, NC 2017) is leading the field by one stroke at one under par with a score of 71. Not far behind Moosa is Gina Kim (Chapel Hill, NC 2018) at one over par with a score of 73. There are six players tied for third at three over par with a score of 75, including: Emily Brooks (Chapel Hill, NC 2012), Jennifer Chang (Cary, NC 2018), Kate Collom (Davidson, NC 2014), Cecily Overbey (High Point, NC 2014), Ashlii Thompson (Browns Summit, NC 2013), and Alaina Yeatts (Durham, NC 2014). There are seven other girls within eight strokes of the leader.

The Futures Division field features 21 players highlighted by four of the top 10 players of the 2012 PKBGT Order of Merit lists. After round one, Grace Massengill (Hickory, NC 2016) is leading the field by one stroke at nine over par with a score of 81. Not far behind Massengill is Megan Cullip (Charlotte, NC 2015) and Haeley Wotnosky (Wake Forest, NC 2018) tied for second at 10 over par with a score of 82 and Savannah Gowarty (Raleigh, NC 2015) is in third at 11 over par with a score of 82. There are eight other girls within eight strokes of the leader.

Weather on Friday should be sunny, hot and humid with a chance of afternoon thunderstorms, but still a great day to conclude the third major of the year. It should be an exciting end to a great event. Who will be golden?

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers.
