Brooks, Hearp lead after round 1 of Carolina’s Classic

On Saturday, May 12, the 2012 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the first round of the Carolina’s Classic @ Carolina Trace CC. Carolina Trace CC, site of the 2012 U.S. Women’s Open Qualifier, proved a challenging course for day one of this two-day event. The event features a field of 61 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 400 members and 94 alumni in the collegiate ranks.

The Bell Division field features 26 golfers, highlighted by four of the top 10 players on the 2012 PKBGT Order of Merit lists.  After round one, Emily Brooks (Chapel Hill, NC 2012) is leading the field by four strokes at five over par with a score of 77. Not far behind Brooks is Hannah Craver (Winston-Salem, NC 2013) and Megan Munroe (Raeford, NC 2016) at nine over par with a score of 81 and Gina Kim (Chapel Hill, NC 2018) at 10 over par with a score of 82.

The Futures Division field features 35 golfers, highlighted by five of the top 10 players on the 2012 PKBGT Order of Merit lists. After round 1, Kristin Hearp (Salem, VA 2016) is leading the field by four strokes at eight over par with a score of 80. Not far behind Hearp is Haeley Wotnosky (Wake Forest, NC 2018) at 12 over par with a score of 84 and Moon Cheong (Charlotte, NC 2017) at 13 over par with a score of 85.

Weather for Sunday will be cloudy with temperatures in the mid 70s.  Looks like great weather for shooting lower scores and an excellent day to conclude this two-day tournament.
