Salisbury, NC – The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls Golf Tour hosted its second major championship of the year this past weekend at the Country Club of Salisbury.  Nearly 90 girls competed in the event, making it the largest PKB Tour event since the tours inception. Reigning as the largest “girls only” golf tour in the country,  girls from all over the east coast and beyond traveled to compete in the event.

The weekend displayed some great golf action in both divisions of the tour as Bryana Nguyen of Columbia, MD posted a final round 1 over 72 to take home the three day Bell division title and Sarah Spicer of Bahama, NC posted a final round record book matching 3 under 68 in the two day Futures event!

Heading into day 3 Nguyen found herself 4 shots clear of leader Lyberty Anderson of Chesterfield, Va, but after a solid 35 even par front nine performance Nguyen had worked herself into the lead .It was a lead that Nguyen would not relinquish posting one over on the back to hold the lead as a charging Anderson found herself last ditch efforts two shots off the mark.

The major championship win marked Nguyen’s third victory on tour to date the others included the SC Open in February and the Lexington Open in April. As a winless tour member heading into the year, Nguyen has   accomplished more than planned. “ I have been practicing more intently on the areas that are I thought were holding me back  and it really seems to be paying off. I have to say that I am really grateful for the PKB tour though because there is not any substitute for experience and the tour has given me many opportunities through the years.”

Nguyen’s consistent play proved to be the over comer in this event as Anderson played the par 3’s and 5’s 2 under par for the week, but struggled on the par 4’s.

Following Nguyen (72-78-72—222) and Anderson (72-74-78—224) were Sara Bae of Raleigh, NC (74-80-72—226) Lane Gakeler of Greensboro, NC (78-74-74—226) and Kristi Ingram of Winston – Salem , NC (76-73-77—226).

The tour will now move into its summer series schedule leading to its third and final major of 2011 at the PKBGT Precision Girls Jr. Golf Championships hosted by Bryan Park GC in August. The summer schedule will include two day events in Virginia that will begin at the prestigious Kings Mill Resort and Golf Club in Williamsburg, Va in June as well as a collegiate division for girls ages 18 to 24.
