Wood, Cheong win One-Day Open Series @ Chapel Hill

On Monday, August 6, the 2012 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the One-Day Open Series @ Chapel Hill CC. Chapel Hill CC proved a challenging course for this one-day event. The event featured a field of 33 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 400 members and 94 alumni in the collegiate ranks.

In the Bell Division, Savanna Wood (Boone, NC 2014) carded six over par with a score of 78 to win the tournament. When asked about her first win on the PKB Tour and second win in the 2012 season, Woods responded, “My round felt very good. Besides a few unlucky shots, I really enjoyed myself.” Woods credits her putting for her solid round and did not have a single three putt this round. Ashlii Thompson (Browns Summit, NC 2013) carded eight over par with a score of 80 to place second and Erica Gallerani (Greensboro, NC 2013) carded eight over par with a score of 80 to place third.

In the Futures Division, Moon Cheong (Charlotte, NC 2017) carded three over par with a score of 76 to win the tournament. This is Cheong’s second win of the 2012 PKBGT season and makes back-to-back wins in the past two PKB events she has played. Susannah Ireland (Wake Forest, NC 2017) carded six over par with a score of 79 to place second and Madison Sloan (Havelock, NC 2013) carded seven over par with a score of 80 to place third.

PKBGT returns Saturday, August 11 with the One-Day Open Series @ Stoney Creek GC in Stoney Creek, NC. This is the last two-day tournament of the summer season, bringing together the top players from North Carolina and Viriginia. It should be an exciting & challenging event.
