Recap: North Carolina Series at Monroe CC

Greensboro, NC – On Saturday, August 20th, the Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played a North Carolina Series event at Monroe Country Club.

Monroe Country Club was a great and challenging venue for our players to play on and players arrived ready to get their rounds going with the opening tee time at 11:00 am. At the end of the day, three girls stood atop the leaderboards, each the champion of their division in the North Carolina Series at Monroe Country Club.

Prep Division

Julia Capellini (Cary, NC 2026) caught fire on Saturday making three birdies in route to shooting a 75(+3) on the day. This would end up being enough to secure a 1-stroke victory and the championship trophy. Sadie Mecham (Winston-Salem, NC 2025) had three birdies of her own on Saturday and scored 38’s on both nines which helped her finish in solo second. Victoria Fan (Charlotte, NC 2025) played the front nine in even-par and finished in a tie for third with Riley Grimm (Pinehurst, NC 2028). Grimm made three birdies including back-to-back birdies to close the front nine.

Futures Division

Kate Grantham (Pinehurst, NC 2026) shot the only round in the 70’s for the futures division. Grantham played her last eight holes in 2-under par to win by 2 strokes. Aviva Wang (Cary, NC 2026) and Margaret Olson (Fort Mill, SC 2024) played well down the stretch as well scoring just 2-over on the back nine helping them to finish in second and third place respectively. Brooke Busby (Salisbury, NC 2027) and Annika Kullstam (Huntersville, NC 2023) both scored a 42 on the front nine and a 40 on the back nine to shoot 82(+10) and tie for fourth place.

Discovery Division

Sloan McKinney (Denver, NC 2030) made 2 birdies and 6 pars to shoot 35(-1). Her birdie on the ninth hole ended up making the difference and giving her a one shot victory. Ella Spence (Waxhaw, NC 2029) played her round in even par after making a birdie on the first hole and 7 pars to finish in second place. Kayla Jackson (Charlotte, NC 2031) and Makenzie Aaron (Browns Summit, NC 2029) both made a birdie helping them to finish in third and fourth place respectively.

We would like to extend our greatest thanks to the entire staff at Monroe Country Club for their incredible hospitality. This weekend provided a challenge for all of our competitors and we would like to congratulate all of our top finishers at the North Carolina Series at Monroe CC.

About the PKBGT

Founded in 2007 by the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization, as a local girls’ golf tour in the Triad region of North Carolina, the tour began as a simple concept: create more effective competitive playing opportunities for girls. By utilizing innovative yardage-based divisions instead of the traditional age-based format, the tour focused on developing tournament experience at the player’s pace.
