Greensboro, NC – On Sunday, August 28th, the Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played a Middle Atlantic Series event at Crofton Country Club.
The Middle Atlantic Series had back-to-back events this weekend with the second being played at Crofton Country Club on Sunday. Players arrived early and eager to get ready for their rounds with play beginning at 1:30 pm. At the end of the day, three players rose to the top of their divisions and won the Middle Atlantic Series at Crofton CC.
Prep Division
SEVEN playoff holes were needed to decide our Prep Division champion at Crofton! Sophie Cao (McLean, VA 2027) came out of the playoff with the championship trophy. She made 14 pars and a birdie during her round to shoot 74(+2). Madison Lehr (Mechanicsville, VA 2024) made two birdies on the front nine, playing it in 2-under and would claim solo second place. Caroline Zhou (Rockville, MD 2025) played her back-nine in even par, propelling her a third place finish. Lila Becker (Woodstock, MD 2025) followed her victory on Saturday with a fourth place finish at Crofton.

Futures Division
Aspen Bikowski (White Plains, MD 2027) made three birdies on the day which ultimate proved to be the difference as she won the tournament by three strokes. Coming off of her T3 on Saturday, Caitlyn Navaleza (Baltimore, MD 2026) made three birdies, improved her score, and finished in second. Katherine Yun (Ashburn, VA 2028) and Lauren Wood (McLean, VA 2025) each made three birdies as well on Sunday and finished in third and fourth respectively.

Discovery Division
After falling short in a playoff the day before, Sy Shafie (Laytonsville, MD 2028) rebounded and won her division on Sunday. Shafie made three birdies and scored 35(-1). Holly Hinton(Bethesda, MD 2029) made 6 pars in her 9 holes to shoot 39(+3) and finished in second place. Madeline Navaleza (Baltimore, MD 2028) birdied the par-4 eighth hole propelling her to a third place finish. Adelaide Farvolden (Towson, MD 2030) made five pars and finished in fourth place.

Founded in 2007 by the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization, as a local girls’ golf tour in the Triad region of North Carolina, the tour began as a simple concept: create more effective competitive playing opportunities for girls. By utilizing innovative yardage-based divisions instead of the traditional age-based format, the tour focused on developing tournament experience at the player’s pace. The 2022 season will feature over 138 tournaments in 12+ states and with over 1,000 members, the PKBGT is the largest girl’s only tour in the country.
