Hartsell, Cheong win One-Day Open Series @ Rock Barn

On Monday, July 16, the 2012 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the One-Day Open Series @ Rock Barn Golf & Spa (Jackson). Rock Barn Golf & Spa (Jackson) proved a challenging course for this one-day event. The event featured a field of 32 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 400 members and 94 alumni in the collegiate ranks.

In the Bell Division, Abbey Hartsell (Hickory, NC 2015) carded six over par with a score of 77 to win the tournament. When asked about her first win in 2012, Hartsell responded, “It feels really good to win.” Hartsell credits today’s win to her solid putting. Madalyn Davis (Marion, NC 2012) carded seven over par with a score of 78 to place second and Kristin Hearp (Salem, VA 2016) carded 11 over par with a score of 82 to place third.

In the Futures Division, Moon Cheong (Charlotte, NC 2017) carded two over par with a score of 73 to win the tournament. When asked about her first win in 2012, Cheong responded, “I’ve been working really hard, so I’m really glad I finally won. Today’s round was also a new personal best for me.” Grace Massengill (Hickory, NC 2016) carded six over par with a score of 77 to place second and Emily Herron (Charlotte, NC 2015) carded 11 over par with a score of 82 to place third.

PKBGT returns Thursday-Friday, July 19-20 with the PGS CHAMPIONSHIP @ Bryan Park GC (Champions/Players) in Greensboro, NC. This is the third major of the year, bringing together the top players in the Southeast & Mid-Atlantic. It should be an exciting & challenging event. Who will be golden?

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers. Based out of Greensboro, North Carolina, the PKBGT offers low cost, nationally ranked girls’ golf tournaments designed to prepare junior girls’ golfers for high school and collegiate golf.
