Chang wins Futures Division, Povarsnik, Thompson lead Bell Division after round 2 of PKBGT OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS

On Sunday, May 27, the 2012 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the second round of the PKBGT OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS @ CC of Salisbury. CC of Salisbury proved a challenging course for round two of this two day event for the Futures Division and three day event for the Bell Division. The event features a field of 86 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 400 members and 94 alumni in the collegiate ranks.

In the Futures Division, Jennifer Chang (Cary, NC 2018) carded one over par with a score of 72 to place first with 74 + 72  = 146. When asked about her win, Chang said, “It feels great to win.  This is my first win of the 2012 season.” Chang credits her win to her awesome short game. Emilia Migliaccio (Cary, NC 2017) also carded one over par with a score of 72 to place second with 76 + 72 = 148. Naomi Mitchell (Norfolk, VA 2018) carded six over par with a score of 77 to place third with 74 + 77 = 151.

The Bell Division field features 60 players highlighted by eight of the top 10 players on the 2012 PKBGT Order of Merit lists. After round 2, Jessica Porvasnik (Hinckley, OH 2013) and Ashlii Thompson (Browns Summit, NC 2013) are tied for first at 142. Today, Thompson carded one under par with a score of 70. Not far behind Povarsnik and Thompson is Reona Hirai (Summerville, SC 2014) who carded two over par with a score of 73 and Cecily Overbey (High Point, NC 2014) who carded three over par with a score of 74. There are five other girls in the Bell Division that are within eight strokes of the leaders.

Weather for Monday will be sunny with temperatures in the 80. Looks like an excellent day to conclude this major tournament.

The PKBGT OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP is the second major of the year, bringing together the top players from nine states. It should be an exciting & challenging event. Who will be golden?
