Brooks takes title at PKBGT SC University Classic hosted by Furman GC
Brooks even par final round performance earns her the three shot victory!
Greenville, SC — The girls’ of the Peggy Kirk Bell Girls Golf Tour were at Furman Golf Club this past weekend for the SC University Classic. The course played very difficult as firm greens made shot – making especially challenging on approach shots. Nonetheless, Emily Brooks of Chapel Hill, NC found her rhythm on her final nine holes posting two under 34 coming in, for an even par 72 on the day, giving her the three shot victory over tour newcomer Clementina Rodriguez of Hilton Head, SC.
The win marked Brooks first on the PKB Tour. Brooks stated about her performance, “I have come close a few times to winning out here, but I finally finished strong and it was a great win for me. I am excited that my game is coming around as I have some big events coming up this month this will give me more confidence in my game knowing that I can close the deal in a big tournament like I did today.”
Brooks was all smiles in her player interview as she recapped her round and credited her putting performance as she stated, “My coach Robert Linville and I knew my putting was the missing link that was keeping me from winning out here. I am excited to tell him the news!”
Brooks, along with several other PKB players, works with Robert Linville of Precision Golf School in Greensboro, NC. The Golf school is a primary sponsor of the tour and Linville, the tours founder, designed the PKB tour with a focus on “girls only” competition assisting girls in developing and exposing their talents on a regional level. The tour is now the nation’s largest “girls only” golf tour with over 250 members in 2010 and is part of the not for profit Triad Youth Golf Foundation that has reached over 20,000 kids through golf in the last few years.
Brooks first place finish and two day total of 151 bettered over 20 girls in her division including Clementina Rodriguez at 154, Kaitlin Matheson of Easley, SC and Maddisen Cox of Easley, SC at 161, and Taylor Allison of Elizabeth City, NC at 162.
The Futures Division victor was Delaney Shah who posted 81 in her final round in route to victory capturing first place honors by 7 shots!
Following Shah at 165, was Grace Massengill of Hickory at 172, NC Grace Yatawara of Salisbury, NC at 176, Taylor Gaskins of Irmo, SC at 183 and Maria Cassas of Cary, NC at 193.
The tours next event will be at Foxfire GC West Course on Saturday, May 14th. The event will be the last before the tour’s second major of the year at Country Club of Salisbury on Memorial Day weekend. Last year’s event featured over 80 players and is expected to close out at 100 this year!
