Brooks, Hearp win at Carolina’s Classic @ Carolina Trace CC (Lake)

On Sunday, May 13, the 2012 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the final round of the Carolina’s Classic @ Carolina Trace CC. Carolina Trace CC, site of the 2012 U.S. Women’s Open Qualifier, proved a challenging course for this two-day event. The event features a field of 60 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 400 members and 94 alumni in the collegiate ranks.  Both divisions were a fight to the finish!

In the Bell Division, there was a sudden death playoff between Emily Brooks (Chapel Hill, NC 2012) and Lucia Polo (Greensboro, NC 2013) to determine first place.  Today, Brooks carded nine over par with a score of 81 and Polo carded two over par with a score of 74, both tied at 158 for their two-day totals. Brooks made a seamless par on the playoff hole to win the tournament. When asked about her win, Brooks said, “Since it’s my last season of junior golf, it’s really nice to have a win.” Gina Kim (Chapel Hill, NC 2018) shot eight over par with a score of 80 to place third with 82 + 80 = 162.

In the Futures Division, there was a sudden death playoff between Kristin Hearp (Salem, VA 2016) and Megan Cullip (Charlotte, NC 2015) to determine first place.  Today, Hearp carded 14 over par with a score of 86 and Cullip carded five over par with a score of 77, both tied at 166 for their two-day totals. Hearp won after two playoff holes. When asked about her second win on the PKB Tour this season, Hearp said, “It’s surprising to get another win, but I’m excited.” Jennifer Chang (Cary, NC 2018) shot nine over par with a score of 81 to place third with 86 + 81 = 167.

PKBGT returns to action in two weeks with the PKBGT OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP on May 26-28 at Country Club of Salisbury in Salisbury, NC. This is the second major of the year, bringing together the top players in the Southeast & Mid-Atlantic. It should be an exciting & challenging event. Who will be golden?
