Alyssa Zhang and Samantha Nguyen come from behind to win the Colonial Girls Classic

Williamsburg, V.A. — Alyssa Zhang (Allison Park, PA 2028) and Samantha Nguyen (Springfield, VA 2026) both shot under par final rounds to win their respective divisions at the Peggy Kirk Bell Girls Golf Tour‘s Colonial Girls Classic at Williamsburg National Golf Club.

The PKBGT returned to Virginia for the Colonial Girls Classic where players competed in the Bell National & Futures National divisions.

In the Bell National division, four players shot under par in the first round setting up what would be a thrilling final round! But it would not be the pack sitting under par entering Sunday that would make the strongest charge, Alyssa Zhang would go out in 1-under par with two birdies then caught fire in the middle of her back nine. She made three straight birdies on holes 13 through 15, posting a four-under 68 in the final round and 141 (-3) for the 36 holes. Her great play down the stretch was enough to seal the victory.

Macie Rasmussen (Chesapeake, VA 2027) held the 18-hole head following her opening round of 70 (-2). Rasmussen made four birdies in her first round but failed to generate those kind of fireworks on Sunday, making 16 pars to finish with a round of 72 (E). Ashnoor Kaur (Roanoke, VA 2027) made nine birdies over the 36-hole event and was the only player to card two rounds under par. Her two rounds of 71 (-1) would tie her with Rasmussen for second place with a total of 142 (-2). Rose Hall (Yorktown, VA 2029) impressed on Sunday making six birdies other way to a round of 69 (-3) that saw her jump into solo fourth place.

The Futures National division was just as close of a race! Aditi Lakhawala (Kendall Park, NJ 2029) held a three shot lead after a first round 69 (-3) that included five birdies. But a slow start on Sunday allowed those trailing to make a run for the title. Samantha Nguyen would do just that. An early birdie on the second hole gave her momentum and carried all the way to the final stretch. She would add a birdie on the 13th hole before making birdies on 17 & 18!

Nguyen was playing alongside Alaina Carson (Broomall, PA 2028) who made four birdies in her final round and went toe to toe with Nguyen on Sunday. Carson matched Nguyen’s birdies on 13 & 17 but Nguyen’s birdie on 18 proved to be the difference giving her a one shot victory. Ada Inderlied (Virginia Beach, VA 2030) made four birdies each day and would finish in a tie for third with Lakhawala.

About the PKBGT

Founded in 2007 by Girls Golf of America, a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization, a local girls’ golf tour in the Triad region of North Carolina.  The tour began as a simple concept: create more effective competitive playing opportunities for girls. By utilizing innovative yardage-based divisions instead of the traditional age-based format, the tour focused on developing tournament experience at the player’s pace. The 2023-2024 season will feature over 110 tournaments in 9 states on the East Coast, and with over 1,000 members, the PKBGT is the largest girl’s only tour in the country.  Learn more about the PKBGT at http://www.pkbgt.org/.
