With tee times commencing at 9:30 am players arrived early and eager to get their PKBGT Invitational underway. The heavy rain from Thursday and Friday made the course wet but that didn’t stop the field from attacking the course and making plenty of birdies and eagles! Macy Pate (Winston Salem, NC 2022) is no stranger to Bermuda Run. Macy finished runner-up a year ago at the PKBGT Invitational and has also shot a 57 in a High School event at Bermuda Run!
That experience showed as she opened with a 6-under 66. Macy birdied six of her first eleven holes and is the leader by four strokes entering Round 2. Sophia Li (New York, NY 2025) played her last 10 holes in 2-under par and is in second place alone at -2. In an up and down round, Alexsandra Lapple (Pinehurst, NC 2023) made an impressive six birdies on the day and scored a 1-under 71 in her opening round.
Aphrodite Deng (Short Hills, NJ 2028), Makayla Grubb (Stafford, VA 2025), and Ellen Yu (Greensboro, NC 2025) all signed for a round of even par and are tied for fourth but within striking distance with two rounds to play.

About the PKBGT
Founded in 2007 by the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization, as a local girls’ golf tour in the Triad region of North Carolina, the tour began as a simple concept: create more effective competitive playing opportunities for girls. By utilizing innovative yardage-based divisions instead of the traditional age-based format, the tour focused on developing tournament experience at the player’s pace. The 2022 season will feature over 138 tournaments in 12+ states and with over 1,000 members, the PKBGT is the largest girl’s only tour in the country.
