Recap: Coastal Carolina Girls Classic

Myrtle Beach, SC The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour headed to The General James Hackler Course for the final round of the Coastal Carolina Girls Classic. 

Bell National

Bridget Wilkie (Bluffton, SC 2024) made four birdies on Saturday and was one back of the lead entering Sunday’s final round. After a slow start, Wilkie made twelve straight pars and then birdied the eighteenth to take the solo lead and win the tournament! Megan Kirkpatrick (Woodbine, MD 2024) birdied the par-5 16th helping to push her to a solo second place finish. Jillian Fatkin (Oak Island, NC 2024) posted a great Sunday round of 73 (+1) to move up the leaderboard and finish in third. Leah Edwards (Greensboro, NC 2025) and Alisa Pressley (Hoschton, GA 2025) played solid over the weekend helping them to finish tied for fourth.

Prep Preview

Julia Capellini (Cary, NC 2026) entered Sunday tied for the lead with Gabriella McGehee (Mineral, VA 2025). Capellini got off to a quick start birdieing the first hole and added another on the seventeenth. Mia Andrade (Chapin, SC 2025) was four back to start the day but fired the low round of the tournament for the Prep division, a 73 (+1). Her three birdies and brilliant final round brought her back to force a playoff with Capellini! It took three holes to decide the champion and on the third playoff hole Cappelini came through to win the Prep division title! McGehee posted a final round 80 (+8) to tie for third with Peyton Nichols (Winterville, NC 2024) who shot back-to-back rounds of 78 (+6) to secure medalist honors.

Futures National

Katelyn Cox (Taylors, SC 2026) entered Sunday’s round five back of the lead and tied for fourth place but was perfect on Sunday! Cox made two birdies and a lone birdie to shoot a 1-under par round of 71 to come from behind and win the Futures National division by three! Lina Polteraitis (Florence, SC 2026) made two birdies on Sunday and two on Saturday to finish in solo second place.  Maya Claffey (Charlotte, NC 2027) made three birdies during her opening round and would shoot an 80 (+8) on Sunday to earn third place. Rounding out the medalists in the Futures division was Gabriella Collelo (Pinehurst, NC 2029) who made a birdie on the fifteenth to finish in fourth.

1. Katelyn Cox (Taylors, SC 2026) / 79 + 71 = 150 (+6)

2. Lina Polteraitis (Florence, SC 2026) / 74 + 79 = 153 (+9)

3. Maya Claffey (Charlotte, NC 2027) / 76 + 80 = 156 (+12)

4. Gabriella Collelo (Pinehurst, NC 2029) / 78 + 79 = 157 (+13)

Congratulations to the 2023 Coastal Carolina Girls Classic champions and all the medalists from The Hackler Course! We would like to thank the staff at Coastal Carolina and The Hackler Course for their incredible hospitality over the weekend and keeping the course in great shape! The course provided a great test for all our players and created an exciting final round to crown our champions!

Founded in 2007 by Girls Golf of America, a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization, a local girls’ golf tour in the Triad region of North Carolina.  The tour began as a simple concept: create more effective competitive playing opportunities for girls. By utilizing innovative yardage-based divisions instead of the traditional age-based format, the tour focused on developing tournament experience at the player’s pace.
