Round 1 Update: PKBGT Spring Bell Invitational

Charlottesville, VA – The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour traveled to Birdwood Golf Course at the Boar’s Head Resort in Charlottesville, VA for the PKBGT Spring Invitational.

LEADERBOARD UPDATE

It’s tight at the top of the leaderboard after the opening round on Saturday! The low round of the day was two-under par 70’s shot by Kathryn Ha (Roanoke, VA 2025) and Ella Weber (Burlington, Canada 2023). Ha started her round hot playing her first nine in 2-under and made four birdies on the day to grab a share of the lead. Much like Ha, Weber got off to a quick start birding three of her first six holes, she would add two more birdies on the back nine to share the overnight lead.

Coming off a victory at the RocketTour Players Championship, Hailey Han (Duluth, GA 2025) picked up right where she left off firing an opening round of one-under to sit in solo third. A three-way tie for fourth rounds out the top five on the first round leaderboard. Anne-Lea Lavoie (Quebec City, Canada 2023), Arabella Lopez (Ridgefield, CT 2027), and Kinsley Smith (Raleigh, NC 2024) all played Saturday’s round in even par and are positioned well to make a charge up the leaderboard.

All the players in the field played well on Saturday setting the stage for what should be an exciting two more days at the PKBGT Spring Bell Invitational! There are twenty-four players within four strokes of the lead and thirty-eight players within eight. With two rounds left to play, it is anybody’s tournament to win! The cut after Sunday’s round will reduce the field to the top twenty-seven and ties for Monday’s final round.

About the PKBGT

Founded in 2007 by the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization, as a local girls’ golf tour in the Triad region of North Carolina, the tour began as a simple concept: create more effective competitive playing opportunities for girls. By utilizing innovative yardage-based divisions instead of the traditional age-based format, the tour focused on developing tournament experience at the player’s pace. The 2022 season will feature over 138 tournaments in 12+ states and with over 1,000 members, the PKBGT is the largest girl’s only tour in the country.  Learn more about the PKBGT at http://www.pkbgt.org/.
