Recap: Freedman wins One-Day Open at Chapel Hill

On Monday, August 4, the 2014 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the One-Day Open Series at Chapel Hill Country Club. One-day tournaments are designed for golfers of all skill levels, but are a great place for development golfers to “get in to the swing of things” playing tournament golf. The goal of One-Day Open Series events is to provide a fun and friendly tournament on a premium golf course. The event featured a field of BLANK players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 375 members in 2013 and 262 girls playing in or committed to collegiate golf.

In the Bell Division-Prep Series, Hailey Freedman (Chapel Hill, NC 2018), Savannah Gowarty (Raleigh, NC 2015), and Erin Moore (Westfield, NC 2015) all shot five over par each with scores of 77. On the third hole of a sudden-death playoff, Freedman made birdie to win the title.

In the Futures Division, Mia Kness (Venetia, PA 2017) shot two over par with a score of 75 to place first. Kayla Smith (Burlington, NC 2019) shot seven over par with a score of 80 to place second. Hannah Rose Bruxvoort (Chapel Hill, NC 2018) and Emma Parson (Chapel Hill, NC 2016) both shot eight over par each with scores of 81 to tie for third.

With their victories, Freedman and Kness received a class A exemptions into the Tournament of Champions this fall. PKBGT returns to action on Monday-Wednesday, August 11-13 with the TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP @ Pine Needles Lodge & GC in Southern Pines, NC. The course is home fantastic venue for the fifth championship event of the season and the event brings together players from Maryland, North Carolina, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Virginia.

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers.
