Recap: Lovorn Wins Palmetto Classic

On Sunday, March 17, the 2013 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour concluded the Palmetto Classic at Cobblestone Park Golf Club at the University of South Carolina. Cobblestone Park Golf Club, home of the University of South Carolina Gamecocks golf teams, proved a challenging course for this two-day tournament. The event featured a field of 52 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 330 members in 2012, 137 alumni in the collegiate ranks and 29 National Letter of Intent signees for fall 2013.

In the Bell Division, there was a sudden death playoff between Riley Lovorn (Anderson, SC 2014) who shot 76 + 75 = 151 and Eunice Yi (Evans, GA 2013) who shot 80 + 71 = 151. Lovorn proved triumphant by making an easy par to win the first playoff hole. Anne Taylor Hough (Spartanburg, SC 2015) carded seven over par with a score of 78 to place third with 76 + 78 = 154.

In the Futures Division, Moon Cheong (Charlotte, NC 2017) carded seven over par with a score of 78 to place first with 79 + 78 = 157. In her first PKB tournament, Jensen Castle (West Columbia, SC 2019) carded 13 over par with a score of 84 to place second with 84 + 84 = 168. Katie Pritchett (Dry Fork, VA 2016) shot 13 over par with a score of 84 to place third with 85 + 84 = 169.

PKBGT returns to action next week on Saturday-Sunday, March 23-24 with the Richmond Classic @ Providence Golf Club in Richmond, VA. This event brings together players from the Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and, and Virginia.
