Recap: Wood wins One-Day at Forest Oaks

On Thursday, June 13, the 2013 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the One-Day Open Series at Forest Oaks Country Club. Forest Oaks, former home of the PGA Tour Greater Greensboro Open and site of the PKBGT PRECISION GOLF SCHOOL JR GIRLS CHAMPIONSHIPS in July, is a distinguished course for the second one-day tournament of the 2013 season. One-day tournaments are designed for golfers of all skill levels, but are a great place for development golfers to “get in to the swing of things” playing tournament golf. The goal of One-Day Open Series events is to provide a fun and friendly tournament on a premium golf course. The event features a field of 58 players.

In the Bell Division, Savanna Wood (Boone, NC 2014) shot two over par with a score of 74 to place first. Grace Yatawara (Salisbury, NC 2016) shot four over par with a score of 76 to place second. Megan Munroe (Raeford, NC 2016) shot six over par with a score 78 to place third.

In the Futures Division, Natalie Petersen (Holly Springs, NC 2017) shot shot three over par with a score of 75 to place first. This was Petersen’s first victory on the PKB Tour. Kathryn Carson (Mooresville, NC 2017) shot six over par with a score of 78 to place second. Heather Hancock (Siler City, NC 2014) shot seven over par with a score of 79 to place third.

With their victory’s today, Petersen and Wood both received exemptions into the sixth major tournament of the season, the Tournament of Champions, which is being held at Moss Creek Country Club (North Course) in Hilton Head Island, SC in September.

PKBGT returns to action this weekend on Saturday-Sunday, June 15-16 with the Bash at the Bay Classic at Kingsmill Resort (Woods Course) in Williamsburg, VA. The resort is home of the LPGA Kingsmill Championship. The tournament brings together players from Maryland, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Virginia. It should be a great tournament!
