Preview: Open Championship at Salibury

On Saturday-Monday, May 25-27, the 2013 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour plays the OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP at Country Club of Salisbury. Country Club of Salisbury, a historic Donald Ross course, is a great venue for the third major tournament of the 2013 season. There was a record-breaking 118 entries received for the event, but the field was cut to 96 players. The field is quite strong with 11 event champions from the 2013 season, 16 of the top 500 players ranked nationally by Junior Golf Scoreboard, 28 players ranked inside the top 100 for their class by Junior Golf Scoreboard, and the defending 2012 PKBGT OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP Bell Division champion.

The Bell Division field features 72 golfers, highlighted by 16 of the top 500 players ranked nationally by Junior Golf Scoreboard, including: Lucia Polo (Greensboro, NC 2013) ranked 188th, Kelsey Badmaev (Blythewood, SC 2013) ranked 221st, Madison Moosa (Charlotte, NC 2017) ranked 253rd, Nikolette Schroeder (Avon Lake, OH 2015) ranked 309th, Cecily Overbey (High Point, NC 2014) ranked 337th, Lauren Waller (Canonsburg, PA 2015) ranked 342nd, Janet Mao (Johns Creek, GA 2015) ranked 353rd, Natalie Srinivasan (Spartanburg, SC 2016) ranked 359th, Allyson Markiewicz (Charlotte, NC 2013) ranked 372nd, Jillian Hollis (Rocky River, OH 2015) ranked 374th, Catherine Ashworth (Fuquay-Varina, NC 2015) ranked 380th, Ashlii Thompson (Browns Summit, NC 2013) ranked 409th, and Payton Schanen (Kennesaw, GA 2015 ) ranked 435th. There are 21 players ranked inside the top 100 for their class by Junior Golf Scoreboard, including: Allyson Geer (Brighton, MI 2017) ranked 45th, Sarah Spicer (Bahama, NC 2016) ranked 57th, Savanah Goodman (Easley, SC 2016) ranked 66th, Jessica Spicer (Bahama, NC 2016) ranked 67th, Delaney Shah (North Potomac, MD 2016) ranked 74th, Kathleen Sumner (Charleston, SC 2017) ranked 80th, and Megan Munroe (Raeford, NC 2016) ranked 99th. There are six event champions from the 2013 season, including: Juliana Sebastian (Columbia, SC 2014), winner of the Chanticleer Classic @ The Hackler Course at Coastal Carolina University; Emilia Migliaccio (Cary, NC 2017), winner of the NC University Classic @ The Finely GC at UNC-Chapel Hill; Allison Cooper (Harrisburg, PA 2015), winner of the Richmond Classic @ Providence GC; Anna Redding (Concord, NC 2015), winner of the Wolfpack Classic @ Lonnie Poole GC at NC State University; and Haeley Wotnosky (Wake Forest, NC 2018), Futures Division winner of the Chanticleer Classic @ The Hackler Course at Coastal Carolina University and the PKBGT PLAYERS @ Chateau Elan Resort (Chateau Course). Finally, Jessica Porvasnik (Hinckley, OH 2013), winner of the 2012 PKBGT OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP @ Country Club of Salisbury, will be defending her title.

The Futures Division field features 24 golfers, highlighted by 16 of the top 25 players on the 2013 PKBGT Order of Merit lists, including: Maria Cassas (Cary, NC 2015) in 3rd position, Kathryn Carson (Mooresville, NC 2017) in 7th position, Kendall Dobbins (Summerfield, NC 2016) in 10th position, Eunbbie Kim (Potomac, MD 2015) in 18th position, Elizabeth Nguyen (Pinehurst, NC 2017) and Susannah Ireland (Wake Forest, NC 2017) tied in 20th position, Katie Pritchett (Dry Fork, VA 2016) in 22nd position, Aubrey Patti (Winston-Salem, NC 2015) in 24th position, and Jodee Tindal (Rock Hill, SC 2017) in 25th position. There are 7 players ranked inside the top 100 for their class by Junior Golf Scoreboard, including: Kelly Salamy (Williamsburg, VA 2020) ranked 18th, Holly McCann (Raleigh, NC 2019) ranked 24th, Alyssa Montgomery (Knoxville, TN 2019) ranked 35th, Diana Cristina Domenech (Richmond, VA 2018) ranked 74th, Hailey Freedman (Chapel Hill, NC 2018) ranked 96th, and Alicia Porvasnik (Hinckley, OH 2018) ranked 100th. There are five event champions from the 2013 season, including: Callista Rice (Mars Hill, NC 2017), winner of the Bulldog Classic @ University of Georgia GC, the NC University Classic @ The Finely GC at UNC-Chapel Hill, and the MASTERS @ Salem Glen Gold & CC; Moon Cheong (Charlotte, NC 2017), winner of the Palmetto Classic @ Cobblestone Park GC at USC-Columbia; and Woo Wade (Dunwoody, GA 2019), winner of the Wolfpack Classic @ Lonnie Poole GC at NC State University.

The OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP at Country Club of Salisbury brings together the players from players from Georgia, Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. It should be an exciting & challenging event! Who will be golden?

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers. Based out of Greensboro, North Carolina, the PKBGT offers low cost, nationally ranked girls’ golf tournaments designed to prepare junior girls’ golfers for high school and collegiate golf. The PKBGT is the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 330 members in 2012, 137 alumni in the collegiate ranks and 29 National Letter of Intent signees for fall 2013.
