Self Regional Healthcare Foundation and The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour presents\u00a0the Women’s Health Classic Junior Challenge for the second year<\/strong><\/h2>\n

GREENWOOD, SC.<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 In partnership with the Self Regional\u00a0Healthcare Foundation<\/a>, the LPGA Symetra Tour\u2019s Women\u2019s Health Classic<\/a> and the Peggy\u00a0Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour<\/a> (PKBGT) have announced the final field for the Women\u2019s Health\u00a0Classic Junior Challenge<\/a>, a qualifying event in which the winner receives an exemption\u00a0into the Self Regional Healthcare Women\u2019s Health Classic on May 10-13, 2018.<\/p>\n

For the second year in a row, the Junior Challenge featured a series of junior girls golf\u00a0tournaments, culminating in a final qualifier, March 24-25, 2018 at the Links at Stoney\u00a0Point<\/a> in Greenwood, S.C. The 2018 event featured six pre-qualification tournaments,\u00a0with events in Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina. These events have brought\u00a0together the top 30 junior girls golfers ages 11-18 on the East Coast.<\/p>\n

Leading the Women’s Health Classic Junior Challenge Symetra Qualifier after round 1 is Kayla Smith<\/a> (Burlington, NC 2019) with a score of 74. Kayla had three birdies on the tough layout at The Links at Stoney Point.\u00a0 Just one shot back in a tie for second place is Catie Craig<\/a> (Sautee Nacoochee, GA 2021), Duke University commit Megan Furtney<\/a> (South Elgin, IL 2019) and Chloe Holder<\/a> (Williamston, SC 2021) with a score of 75. In a five way tie for fifth is 2018 Tar Heel Classic Champion Lexanne Halama<\/a> (Knoxville, TN 2021), Molly Hardwick<\/a> (Lexington, SC 2022), Brown University commit Hailey Freedman<\/a> (Chapel Hill, NC 2018), Loralie Cowart<\/a> (Winston, GA 2021) a 2017 WHC Junior Challenge Champion Lauren Freyvogel<\/a> (Gibsonia, PA 2019) all just 2 shots back with a score of 76.<\/p>\n

The conclusion of the 2018 Women’s Health Classic Junior Challenge is shaping up to be an exciting one! The champion of this weekend\u2019s event will receive a sponsor exemption into the 2018 Women\u2019s Health Classic \u2014 the premier event on the LPGA Symetra Tour \u2014 played May 10-13 at the Links at Stoney Point.<\/p>\n

Previously called the LPGA Futures Tour, the Symetra Tour is the official developmental\u00a0golf tour of the LPGA Tour. Known as \u201cthe Road to the LPGA,\u201d the Symetra Tour has\u00a0graduated a total of 127 women to the LPGA since 1999.<\/p>\n

PKBGT was founded out of a local LPGA-USGA Girls Golf program in Greensboro, North\u00a0Carolina. LPGA-USGA Girls Golf is the principle initiative of the LPGA Foundation, the\u00a0non-profit arm of the LPGA.<\/p>\n

In 2017, the Women\u2019s Health Classic Junior Challenge represented the first east coast\u00a0opportunity for a junior player to earn access to an LPGA professional event.\u00a0 For this\u00a0year\u2019s challenge, over 280 players registered to compete in the Junior Challenge from 13\u00a0different states from Florida to Ohio and 2 countries.<\/p>\n

Founded in 2007 by the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization, as a local girls’ golf tour in the Triad region of North Carolina, the tour began as a simple concept from Tour Founder Robert Linville, PGA: create more effective competitive playing opportunities for girls in the Carolina’s.
