On Saturday, May 3, the 2014 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls\u2019 Golf Tour<\/a> played the first round of the Carolina’s Classic<\/a> at Carolina Trace Country Club (Lake Course). The Lake Course, host site of North Carolina’s 2014 US Women’s Open Qualifier, is a difficult course for this two-day tournament. The event features a field of 40 players from the PKB Girls\u2019 Golf Tour, the nation\u2019s largest \u201cgirls\u2019 only\u201d junior tour with over 375 members in 2013 and 262 girls playing in or committed to collegiate golf.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Bell Division, after round one, Virginia Tech committee Elizabeth Bose (2015, Norfolk, VA) has a 5-shot lead after carding a brilliant 2-over par 74 on the challenging Lake Course lay-out. \u00a0Bose steady play of 2 birdies, 12 pars and 4 bogeys has her in position for a 2nd PKBGT title. \u00a0In the final pairing on Sunday will be Annie Collom (2015, Davidson, NC) who carded a 79 and Meghan Symonds (2015, Cary, NC) at 81.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Futures Division, after round one, Keri Kenkel (2017, Charlotte, NC) \u00a0is leading the field by three strokes with a 6-over par 78. \u00a0Futures Division Order of Merit Champion Katharina Floyd (2020, Chapel Hill, NC) sits alone in second place at 81. \u00a0PKBGT newcomer Alisa Caraballo (2019, Troutville, NC) sits in third at 83.<\/span><\/p>\n

Weather for Sunday’s round looks perfect with sunny skis and temperatures in the 80’s. It should be a great day to play!<\/span><\/p>\n

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls\u2019 Golf Tour<\/a> is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation<\/a>, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers. Based out of Greensboro, North Carolina, the PKBGT offers affordable, high-quality nationally ranked girls\u2019 golf tournaments designed to prepare junior girls\u2019 golfers for high school and collegiate golf.
