Clemson, SC-<\/b> The\u00a0Peggy Kirk Bell Girls\u2019 Golf Tour<\/a> began play at the 2020 Orange Whip Classic at the Walker Course at Clemson University.\u00a0 Originally scheduled for the first weekend of February, flooding and snow canceled the event. Now, just a week before the 2o2o Tour Championship, ten states will represent the field at the home practice facility for the Clemson University PGM program and Clemson Women\u2019s Golf. Scoring conditions were ideal, and a bunched leaderboard will head into tomorrow for what should be an ultimate showdown in Tiger Town.<\/em><\/p>\n

Bell National<\/h2>\n

In the Bell National division, three vets sit atop the leaderboard after day one, including defending champion Kimberly Shen<\/strong> (Johns Creek, GA 2022), Layla Meric<\/strong> (Wesley Chapel, NC 2021), and Ella York<\/strong> (Johns Creek, GA 2024). The trio each fired rounds of 73 (+1). Both Shen and Meric carded two birdies apiece, while the youngest of the three fired four birds during her first round. Meric and York are both searching for the elusive first PKBGT Bell title of their careers, while Shen is looking to get back into the winner’s circle.<\/p>\n

Futures National<\/h2>\n

Three Palmetto state natives sit tied atop the Futures National leaderboard after the first round of the Orange Whip Classic at the Walker Course at Clemson University. Caroline Hawkins<\/strong> (Columbia, SC 2026), Maddie Peake<\/strong> (Pauline, SC 2023), and Grayson Bonner<\/strong> (Mount Pleasant, SC 2024) after rounds of 74 (+2). Fresh off an SC Series victory at Spring Valley Country Club, Grayson Bonner is looking to take the momentum from her first-round into tomorrow to claim her first National title. Maddie Peake, like Bonner, is searching for her first PKBGT National crown as well. Hawkins finished third in her last national event and carded two birdies during the first round.<\/p>\n
