College Park, MD-<\/b>The\u00a0Peggy Kirk Bell Girls\u2019 Golf Tour\u2019s<\/a> second of two events held over the first weekend of August will be at the home of the University of Maryland Women\u2019s Golf program for the Terrapin Classic at The University of Maryland Golf Club. The best in the DMV head to College Park for a showdown on the classically designed tree-lined golf facility located just steps off the UMD campus. Chasing the sun, the Bell National champion was crowned after a sudden-death three-hole playoff.\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n

Paris Fieldings <\/b>(Suffolk, VA 2023) and Lauren Jones<\/strong> (Newtown Square, PA 2021) fired back-to-back rounds of 71 (-1) to finish tied atop a crowded leaderboard. After three holes over cotton candied sky, Fieldings took home the crown. The final overnight leader, Alyssa Wang\u00a0<\/strong>(Rockville, MD 2021) finished a shot outside the top five after her final round of 77 (+5). Fieldings and Jones both birdied the last hole to force the playoff. A hot back-nine for Jones kept her in the hunt thanks to three birdies from holes ten to eighteen. Fieldings is one of the first this season to defend her title after Paris captured the 2019 Terrapin Classic with rounds of 69 \/ 71 =140 (-4).<\/p>\n

Makayla Grubb<\/strong> (Stafford, VA 2025) led wire-to-wire to claim the Terrapin Classic at the University of Maryland Golf Club with rounds of 74 +78= 152 (+10) to capture the title by a single shot. Some trouble on the seventeenth and eighteenth hole nearly cost the Stafford, VA native the tournament as fellow Mid-Atlantic native Sydnee Gaines<\/strong> (Nottingham, MD 2023) made a run on the back-nine before falling just short. It’s been quite some time since Grubb won medalist honors at a PKBGT event. Makayla’s last victory occurred in 2017 when she competed in the Discovery Division. Years of steady improvement finally came to fruition under the threat of darkness in the land of the Terrapins for the Stafford, VA native!<\/p>\n
