Greenville, NC-<\/b>The\u00a0Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour’s<\/a> first of two events contested in August began at the final major championship event of the 2020 season hosted by Greenville Country Club in Greenville, North Carolina. The PKBGT Masters, presented by Aunt Ruby’s Peanuts, initially slated for earlier in the season, was pushed back due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, at the home course of the ECU Women’s Golf Team, this thirty-six hole championship event will bring the best of the tour to the eastern portion of North Carolina for a showdown in Greenville. Hotter than peanut oil described not only the tournament favor provided by our presenting sponsor but also the low scores from both divisions, which included a nine-hole score of 32 (-4)!<\/i><\/p>\n

Bell National<\/h2>\n

In the Bell National division, two natives of the Middle-Atlantic sit atop the leaderboard after round one. Hailey Quickel <\/strong>(Middletown, DE 2020) and winner of the Coastal Carolina Classic, Amber Mackiewicz <\/strong>(Virginia Beach, VA 2023) show the low round in the Bell Division of 70 (-2). The Middletown, DE native, put together quite a round marking her card in blue on four separate occasions, including three birdies in a row on her front nine. Quickel, the James Madison Women’s Golf commit, also eagled the challenging par five thirteenth en route. Mackiewicz, the survivor of the longest PKBGT sudden-death playoff ever, strung together five birds, including four on her front-nine and a birdie at the last to tie the clubhouse leader of Quickel. Sitting three shots back of the duo is McKenzie Daffin (Fayetteville, NC 2021) after her round of 73 (+1).<\/p>\n

Futures National<\/h2>\n

Madison Messimer\u00a0<\/b>(Myrtle Beach, SC 2025), barely made it to the tee in time to play this morning after some confusion. That didn’t phase her, though, as she went on a birdie spree on the hot and humid Saturday in the Carolinas. Messimer, who like the rest of the Futures field, began her round of the eleventh hole, carded eight pars and a lone bogey on her front nine. Something clicked for the Grand Strand native & winner of the Precision Girls Championship when she stepped onto her ninth hole (hole 1), the short par-four first. Madison birdied the first hole (her ninth) and followed with another birdie on the par-four fifth. But that’s not all! Messimer, like Quickel, added a dark blue square to her card after eagling the par-five eighteenth to shoot 32 (-4) over nine holes! Madison holds a three-shot overnight lead over one of the hottest players on tour in Kathryn Ha, who fired an opening round 72 (E). It’s going to be quite an intriguing final round.<\/p>\n
