Myersville, MD-<\/b>The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf<\/a> headed back to the DMV for the final Championship event of the Mid-Atlantic at Musket Ridge Golf Club for the Mid-Atlantic Girls Championship. Seven states are represented in the two divisions, including Rhode Island, Louisiana, Delaware, New York, and Pennsylvania. Musket Ridge Golf Club, voted Maryland\u2019s most scenic golf course, will welcome some of the area\u2019s best for a showdown in the rolling hills of Maryland. The field dealt with wind gusts of nearly 2o mph throughout the round. Just one player in either division finished under par.<\/i><\/p>\n

Bell National<\/h2>\n

In the Bell division, Lauren Jones (Newtown, Square, PA 2021)<\/strong> fired the low tournament round after her opening round of 71 (-1). Jones, carded three birdies, thirteen pars, and two bogeys in her opening round. Jones capitalized on a lucky break on the par-five seventh when her second shot bounced towards a tree just to the left of the green, “I hit my spot with my chip and walked out of there with a birdie,” said Jones after she signed her card earlier this afternoon. The Newtown Square native followed suit with another birdie on the seventh.\u00a0 Strategic club selection and picking the appropriate landing zones were necessary during the blistering winds across the Maryland hillside. Jones succeeded in both categories and holds a one-shot overnight lead. Jones is vying for her first-ever PKBGT title. Shoshana Zuck<\/strong> (Derwood, MD 2022) sits just one stroke behind Jones after her opening round of 72 (E). Zuck and Gianna Papp<\/strong>a (Foster, RI 2025) will join Lauren Jones in the final pairing.<\/p>\n

Futures National<\/h2>\n

Akshitha Vermuru <\/b>(Herndon, VA 2021) takes the overnight lead over a packed leaderboard thanks to her opening round 76 (+4). During Vermuru’s post-round interview, the Herndon, VA native, said her approach shots made the difference in the round, which included one birdie on the risk-reward par-four eleventh. Vermuru nearly drove the green off the tee, flipped a ball out of the greenside bunker that landed on the green like a butterfly with sore feet before tapping in the birdie. Looking in Vermuru’s rearview is Kathryn Ha<\/strong> (Roanoke, VA 2025), winner of the last five Futures National event, sits just two shots off the lead. Playing alongside Vermuru and Ha in the final pairing is the younger Papa sister Vinny Pappa<\/strong> (Foster, RI 2026).<\/p>\n
