Roanoke, VA-<\/strong> The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls Golf Tour concluded round one of the Valley Junior Girls Classic at Hidden Valley Country Club in Roanoke, Virginia, with one of the most unique sights, a double rainbow! A field consisting of players predominantly from the Commonwealth of Virginia and the state of Maryland fought the threat of rain showers throughout the first round. Luckily, the entire field was able to complete their opening rounds before the showers became an issue.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Bell National<\/strong><\/p>\n

Three players sit atop the Bell National leaderboard after posting rounds of 73 (+1). Danielle Suh<\/strong> (Herndon, VA 2020), Melissa Meng<\/strong> (Blacksburg, VA 2020), and Alyssa Wang<\/strong> (Rockville, MD 2021) took advantage of the scoring conditions and recorded five birdies, three birdies, and one birdie respectfully en route to their opening round of (+1). The trio looks to continue the trend of PKBGT National Series events being won by Middle Atlantic natives. The Herndon, VA native, is the lone player from the trio to win a PKBGT title in the past two years.<\/p>\n

Futures National<\/strong><\/p>\n

The local talent Kathryn Ha<\/strong> (Roanoke, VA 2025) leads the Futures National division after an opening-round 74 (+2). Ha carded three birdies during round one and holds an overnight lead of one stroke over Leah Edwards<\/strong> (Greensboro, NC 2025) and McKenzie Weddle<\/strong> (Floyd, VA 2023). Ha has done tremendously well on the PKB circuit as of late dating back to early February at the PKB Foundation Classic hosted by Forest Creek Golf Club in Pinehurst, NC. Ha has finished in the top five in all of her events, including medalist honors at the Cape Fear Classic, runner-up finishes at both the Tarheel Classic as well as a second-place finish at the PKBGT Open Championship where Ha lost in a playoff for first place.<\/p>\n
