On Saturday, August 3rd, the 2019 <\/span>Peggy Kirk Bell Girls\u2019 Golf Tour<\/span><\/a> played the North Carolina Series at Bermuda Run Country Club (West) in Advance, NC.\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

These PKBGT regional events offer innovative yardage-based divisions to girls aged 9-17. <\/span>The PKBGT Series Progression<\/span><\/a> allows players to progress towards playing collegiate golf by playing yardage\/skill appropriate tournaments as they develop their game.<\/span><\/p>\n

Prep Division<\/b><\/h2>\n

Claiming the Prep Division title, <\/span>Anna Howerton <\/b>(Kernersville, NC 2023) fired a round of 76 on the hazard-lined fairways of the west course at Bermuda Run Country Club, the first round host of the prestigious PKBGT Invitational in November! Howerton’s round was highlighted by a 13 pars, punching her ticket to Pinehurst this winter for the 2019 Tournament of Champions!<\/span><\/p>\n

Just 3 strokes back in a tie for 2nd were Maiden, NC native <\/span>Kayla Yang <\/b>(Maiden, NC 2019) who posted a round of 79\u00a0 and Florida’s Marissa Cardenas<\/strong> (St. Augustine, FL 2021). Kayla’s round featured 11 pars while Marissa’s round was highlighted by a birdie on the challenging 15th hole.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Rounding out the top four in the Prep division was Grace Ridenour<\/strong> <\/span>(Cary, NC 2025) with a round of 81. Grace is currently ranked 3rd on the PKBGT Futures National Order of Merit as she heads into the Tour Championship in just a few weeks.<\/span><\/p>\n

Futures Division\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n

Paeton Phillippi <\/b>(Wytheville, VA 2021) earned her first PKBGT victory of 2019 at Bermuda Run West in the Futures division with a score of 74<\/strong>. Phillippi, competing in a field of over 30 competitors, finished her round by birdieing her two of her three holes to take home the title.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Two strokes back finishing in second place was Kinsley Smith<\/strong> (Raleigh, NC 2024). Smith’s round was highlighted by a birdie on the tricky par 5 tenth hole.<\/p>\n

Rounding out the top four in third place was Lily Rowe<\/strong> (Raleigh, NC 2022) with a score of 78 and McKenzie Weddle<\/strong> (Floyd, VA 2023) with a round of 80.<\/p>\n

Discovery Division<\/b><\/h2>\n

Securing her second victory on the North Carolina regional circuit, <\/span>Sanaa Carter <\/b>(Jacksonville, NC 2025) blitzed the field with a solid round of two-over par 38. Carter’s round was bookended by two birdies, on the first and final holes of her round.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Finishing in second place, Alexandra Kennedy<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0<\/b>(Arden, NC 2026) posted a 47 (+11) at Bermuda Run West. <\/span>Miraya Lurie <\/b>(Raleigh, NC 2027) came in third place, one stroke behind, with a 48 (+12).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0Rounding out the top finishers in the Discovery division, <\/span>Gabriella Moorehead <\/b>(Burlington, NC 2027) came in fourth place posting a 49 (+13).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The PKBGT North Carolina Series is back in action on Tuesday, August 6th at Pine Island Country Club in Charlotte, NC.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

About the PKBGT Regional Series<\/strong><\/h2>\n

One-day tournaments are designed for golfers of all skill levels but are a great place for development golfers to \u201cget into the swing of things\u201d playing tournament golf. The goal of One-Day Open Series events is to provide a fun and friendly tournament on a premium golf course.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Founded in 2007 by the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization, as a local girls\u2019 golf tour in the Triad region of North Carolina, the tour began as a simple concept: create more effective competitive playing opportunities for girls. By utilizing innovative yardage-based divisions instead of the traditional age-based format, the tour focused on developing tournament experience at the player\u2019s pace.
