The STORIE: PKBGT Regional Recap (May 24, 2021)

The Delaware Valley Joins the Fun!

The PKBGT Delaware Valley Series kicked off on Saturday at Middletown Country Club with a series-high 40 participants!

PKBGT National Series vet Megan Meng (Pennington, NJ 2024) picked up her first Delaware Valley series title in the Prep division, winning by five shots. The Pennington, NJ native carded a three-over round of 75. Meng recorded five birdies on the day, including four on her back-nine. Finishing runner-up was Anushka Sawant (Monmouth Junction, NJ 2024).

Danielle Higbee (Mickleton, NJ 2025) tabbed her first-ever PKBGT win at Middletown Country Club. Higbee, like Meng, carded a round of 75 (+3) to win. Finishing just behind Higbee was Savannah Laverty (Moorestown, NJ 2027) at (+4).

Giulia Weisser (Reading, PA 2027) was the lone champion from the Keystone State on Saturday. The Reading, PA native, carded a round of 37 (+1) to defeat 2021 Linville Cup participant Bryn Krosse (York, PA 2030) by one. Weisser carded her lone birdie on the par-four fifth.

The Eagle has Landed

The PKBGT Central Florida Series continued on Saturday at Eagle Creek Golf Club.

Laurel Haake (Lakeland, FL 2023) outlasted CFL stalwart Abigail Fernandez (Windermere, FL 2023) in a playoff for the Prep Series title. Haake took advantage of a clutch par on the closing hole to tie Fernandez who bogeyed the last. Laurel took that momentum and never looked back winning on the first playoff hole.

Meyher Khokhar (Gotha, FL 2026) is continually proving that she’s the player to beat in the Futures division capturing her second title of the series. Khokhar has yet to finish outside the top two positions in her five starts this season. Finishing four shots behind Khokhar was Starr Guity (Orlando, FL 2023) at (+10).

Claire Yang (Windermere, FL 2029) picked up her first CFL series win with a round of 37 (+1). The nine-year-old started off hot making birdies on the first and third holes. When her final putt dropped on the ninth green, she finished three ahead of runner-up Sarah Gilman (Lutz, FL 2028).

Azaleas are Blooming

The PKBGT Central Gulf Coast Series continued play on Saturday at Azalea City Golf Course in Mobile, Alabama.

Mariane Johnson (Niceville, FL 2023) continued her dominance of the Prep Central Gulf Coast Series over the weekend with another victory after a round of 79 (+7). Johnson’s lone birdie came on the final hole. Finishing runner-up was Anna Kunkel (Atmore, AL 2026). Johnson has pretty much secured the Storie Apparel Order of Merit Prep Central Gulf Coast award with her finish on Saturday.

Jordyn Martin (Creola, AL 2022) squeaked by current Futures Storie Order of Merit leader Kayla Tolbert (Cantonment, FL 2022) to win the Futures division by one at Azalea City Golf Course. A crucial par-save on the seventeenth hole proved to be the difference for the Alabama native. This is the first PKBGT victory of her junior golf career.

Jasmine Nguyen (Mobile, AL 2030) is one of the few players to compete in every single event. On Saturday, the youngster from Mobile picked up her fourth Discovery Series title to seal the deal and earn her the title of 2021 Storie Apparel Discovery Central Gulf Coast Order of Merit champion. Lauren Green (Saraland, AL 2031) finished runner-up.
