Record breaking weekend at Richmond Classic

The 2012 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour teed off this weekend with the Richmond Classic @ Hunting Hawk GC. Hunting Hawk GC waived the white flag of defeat to the PKBGT this weekend. The event features a field of 35 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 400 members and 94 alumni in the collegiate ranks.

Shannon Brooks (Vienna, VA 2015) carded eight under par with a score of 64 to place first with 77 + 64 = 141. This score was not only a course record, but beat the existing PKBGT record by two strokes. When asked about her round, Brooks said, “I still can’t believe it. It’s exciting because I’ve placed second a bunch of times, so it’s nice to finally place first.” There was a tie for second place between Delaney Shah (North Potomac, MD 2016) with 72 + 74 = 146 and Lyberty Anderson (Chesterfield, VA 2014) with 69 + 77 = 146, but based on second day score, Shah placed second over Anderson.

It was down to the wire in the Futures Division with a sudden death playoff between Amber Liu (Vienna, VA 2016) with a 75 + 77 = 152 and Naomi Mitchell (Norfolk, VA 2018) 76 + 76 = 152. Mitchell made a smooth par to secure her first PKBGT victory. When asked about her victory, Mitchell said, “It’s my first win in three years. I didn’t come out with any expectations for this tournament and am happy with the win.” PKBGT newcomer, Allison Wong (Rockville, MD 2014), shot 81 + 77 = 158 to place third.

PKBGT returns to action in two weeks with the PKBGT MASTERS on April 14-15 at Salem Glen Golf & Country Club in Clemmons, NC. This is the first major of the year, bringing together the top players in the Southeast & Mid-Atlantic. It should be an exciting & challenging event. Who will be golden?
