Badmaev takes Masters Title with birdie in playoff

Badmaev captures PKBGT Masters at Salem Glen Golf & CC

Clemmons, NC – The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls Golf Tours’ first 2011 major event was shortened to 18 holes this weekend after rain on day 2 flooded the course and kept the girls from even starting their final rounds.

However, with a three way tie for the title in the Bell Division,  a playoff  tookplace on the par 3 second hole at Salem Glen between  Karishma Thiagaraj of Haymarket, VA, Kelsey Badmaev of Blythewood, SC and Sara Bae of Raleigh, NC.

The three girls battled the rain filled skies as the PKB tour found a dry par 3 green to host the finale and remarkably Badmaev knocked in her putt from just off the green for birdie on the first playoff hole to beat two pars from her competitors.

The win was the first major victory for Badmaev on the PKB Tour, but she has consistently been a contender in many of the events she has entered on the tour.

” My goal was to think as little as possible in the playoff. I mean it was pouring down rain so I thought lets take one more club and make a controlled swing. I was happy with the shot as it landed just past the pin settling just off the green on the fringe, but I am even happier that I rolled in the putt too ! ”

The major truly displayed the diversity of talent across the southeast states with the leaders themselves representing three different states. Six states were represented this week featuring some of the top junior girl players in each state.

Following Badmaev were Karishma Thiagaraj of Haymarket, VA, and Sara Bae of Raleigh, NC at 73 with Alesandra Hershberger of Basking Ridge, NJ at 76 and Bryana Nguyen of Columbia, MD and Victoria Allred of Pfafftown, NC (both recent PKB winners) in fifth with 77’s.

Certainly to be noted, was the excellent play of Futures Division multiple winner, Jessica Spicer of Bahama, NC who posted the only red number of the tournament with a three under par 68. Her round included 4 birdies and only one blemish giving her an astounding 13 shot lead victory.
