Young Gun Girls shine in Peggy Kirk Bell Girls Golf Tours’ first Major of the Year

Thirteen year old, Lyberty Anderson shoots 71 in the final round to win by two shots !

Southern Pines, NC – The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls Golf Tour played its first major of the 2010 season this weekend at Pine Needles Lodge & GC and thirteen year old Lyberty Anderson from Chesterfield, Va posted a final round score of 71 claiming the Masters at Pine Needles victory over a top – level field.

The field featured over 65 girls from across 6 different states including: North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Tennessee.

Joining the girls, an excited Peggy Kirk Bell, strolled around her backyard watching the PKBGT girls conversing with parents about her amazement with the talent on the tour and entertaining them with her life stories.

“Its remarkable to see how far these young girls are hitting the golf ball! Not only is it far, but it’s straight too,” stated Mrs. Bell after the final round.

Her words certainly transcended the leader board as the “young gun girls” of the tour displayed quite an impressive show. In fact, four of the top five finishers were under fourteen years old!

Among the “young gun girls,” the Masters at Pine Needles champion, Lyberty Anderson of Chesterfield, Va, was one of the longest hitters in the field. At thirteen years young her easy going course mannerisms mixed with her fearless attitude over the golf ball are quite a potent combination that have already brought about several victories for Anderson including the Ricmond Women’s Golf Association Amateur Championship and the 2009 Scott Roberts Invitational in the 14 & under division.

Commentating after the round Anderson stated, “ I knew that I needed to shoot around par on the back nine to give myself a chance against Katherine (referring to Katherine Perry, two time PKBGT order of merit champion and 2009 U.S. Women’s Open participant) and I was able to accomplish it! After a rough start early, I started making some birdies and was able to post 34 on the back nine. It was a very sweet win and to win in front of Mrs. Bell made it even sweeter!!

It was sweet indeed, Anderson’s back nine score gave her a two day total of 144 (2 over ). Following the young phenom from Chesterfield, Va were two time PKBGT order of merit champion Katherine Perry of Cary, NC at 146, Sarah Bae of Raleigh, NC at 151, first round leader, Kelsey Badmaev of Blythewood, SC at 152, Bryana Nguyen of Columbia, MD at 153 and a tie for sixth at 155 with Taelor Rubin of Raleigh, NC and Mallory Warrick of Wilson, NC.

In the Futures division, Madison Moosa of Charlotte, NC took home her second victory in a row posting a two day total of 160 with a 79 in her final round at the infamous Ross designed golf course.

Following the Futures Champion was first round leader, Nicolette Donovan of Cary, NC at 162, Emily Stinson of Charlotte, NC at 166, Sarah Spicer of Bahama, NC at 167, Mary – Frances Hall of St. Road, NC at 171 and Jessica Spicer of Bahama, NC at 172.

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls Golf Tours’ next event will be at Meadowlands GC in Winston – Salem next weekend.
