Kirk takes home PKB Invitational Title

Katie Kirk wins PKB Invitational

Katie Kirk takes wire to wire win at 2010 PKB Invitational!

Kirk fires 36 hole PKB tournament record 5 under par

Stoney Creek, NC – The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls Golf Tour season ending PKB Invitational was a great success this weekend at Stoney Creek Golf Club. The PKB Invitational featured the top 60 players of the over 250 “girls only” players on the 2010 tour.

Continuing her season ending charge, the PKB tour saw veteran player Katie Kirk of Davidson, NC  set the new PKB 36 hole tournament record posting scores of 66 – 71 –- 137 to win the invitational by 9 shots over Bryan Nguyen of Columbia, MD (75-71 –-146).

The PKB Invitational win marked the second consecutive major championship win for Kirk as she captured the tours final major earlier in the year at Bryan Park Golf Course when she posted a five under 67 in the final round of play earning her the event victory and the 2010 Order of Merit honor as well.

Certainly Kirk was the heavy favorite heading into the event, but her spectacular play was above and beyond expectations as she marked her final PKB performance of the year in the pages of PKB history books. The 5 under total was the largest under par performance of PKB two – day history, as former tour player Katherine Perry who now plays at UNC Chapel Hill, held the record at 4 under.

Kirk’s two rounds consisted of ten birdies a double and three bogeys proving that she can perform on the toughest of golf courses.

“I played steady all week, stated Kirk. I had a little luck and made only one big mistake the whole tournament which was really just one bad swing on number 9 that led to a double bogey. Aside from that it was really fun to play solid for two straight days and really follow up a great round yesterday with a good performance today.”

Also, the event featured a strong showing from Virginia (3 of the top 6) and Maryland (2 of the top 6) as the girls represented their states well.

The top six following Kirk and Nguyen were Lauren Coughlin of Chesapeake, VA at 76 – 73 – 149,  Karishma Thiagaraj of Haymarket,VA 76-75 – 151,  Lyberty Anderson of Chesterfield, VA  76 – 76 – 152, and Elyse Smidinger of  Crofton, MD 76 – 77 – 153.

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls Golf Tour will begin its 2011 Kickoff at Pine Needles Lodge and Golf Club on January 29th and 30th next year.  Tour membership will be available starting in December.
