Alumna Coughlin wins CPKC Women’s Open

Greensboro, N.C. — PKBGT alumna Lauren Coughlin won at the CPKC Women’s Open for her first ever LPGA title win last Sunday.

Lauren Coughlin, a Chesapeake, Va. native, brought home the trophy from the Canadian Women’s Open at Earl Grey Golf Club in Calgary, Alberta with a total score of 275 (-13) after the four rounds. With a close two stroke victory over Mao Saigo, Coughlin ended the final round with two birdies in her last four holes, leading to a round of 71 (-1) to win the title.

With the win, Coughlin continues to have a career year on the LPGA Tour with five top-10 finishes including two top-5 finishes in majors: the Chevron Championship and the Evian Championship. Prior to this year, she had three total top-10 finishes in her first seven seasons as a professional. She is currently fifth in the Solheim Cup standings and 27th in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings.

Coughlin’s victory makes her the second alumnae to win this season on the LPGA tour after Bailey Tardy’s win at the 2024 Blue Bay LPGA in March of this year.

As a student at the University of Virginia, Coughlin made a name for herself through both team and individual events. Before joining the women’s golf team at UVA, Coughlin won the 2012 VSGA Women’s Amateur Championship and successfully defended her victory in 2013. After joining the team and rising through the ranks, Coughlin picked up numerous accolades including All-American, All-ACC, and ACC Academic Honor Roll honors. She set multiple Virginia records including the lowest single-round and lowest tournament scoring records. Coughlin finished fourth in her junior year at the ACC Championships to help Virginia win the team title, and as a senior she won the individual title to become the 2016 ACC Individual Champion.

In her time with PKBGT, Coughlin finished third in the 2010 Fall Invitational at the Club at Stoney Creek. Coughlin was one of the earliest players from Virginia and the Middle Atlantic region to travel down and play in PKBGT events, eventually helping lead to our expansion outside of the Carolina’s.

We remain incredibly grateful to Lauren and all of the players on tour then and now that continue to help us expand and grow! Congratulations to Lauren on her recent win, and we hope to see her first win lead to many more!

About the PKBGT

Founded in 2007 by Girls Golf of America, a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization, a local girls’ golf tour in the Triad region of North Carolina.  The tour began as a simple concept: create more effective competitive playing opportunities for girls. By utilizing innovative yardage-based divisions instead of the traditional age-based format, the tour focused on developing tournament experience at the player’s pace. The 2023-2024 season will feature over 110 tournaments in 9 states on the East Coast, and with over 1,000 members, the PKBGT is the largest girl’s only tour in the country.  Learn more about the PKBGT at http://www.pkbgt.org/.
