The Inaugural Foundation Junior Championship is in the books with the players escaping both rounds with not a drop of rain. The greens at Three Pines Country Club were so perfect that Augusta National would be proud to claim as their own, and with a nice breeze and sunny skys the girls were on there way in the final round of the championship. Going into the final round with a 5 shot lead over Isabella Britt and Lexi Thompson was Abigail Schimpf from Daniel Island Club. Abigail Schimpf carded 5 bogies and 3 birdies for the day to shoot two over 74 for a two day total of 145 which was good enough for a wire to wire win for the Championship. Runner Up for the event was Isabella Britt, just 7 shots behind A. Schimpf and two ahead of Peyton Gillespie (78-76=154) from Greenville Country Club. Gillespie ended up being First in the First Flight, four shots better than Abigail’s sister Emma Schimpf who carded a 79-79=158.
Taking the title in the Second Flight was Kennedy Gooding from Hidden Valley Country Club shooting 77-79=156 Both days Kennedy shot 41 on the front nine and finished strong improving anywhere from 3 to 5 shots on the back to seal the title. Coming in second in the second flight was Madison Jordan, Carolina’s Eclub Upstate Member, who also shot a two day total of 156 but lost the scorecard playoff to get second place.
It was a tight race in the Third Flight for the championship between Madison Dixon and Abigayle Hatcher. Dixon edged out Hatcher by one shot having 4 birdies on the final round to fire a 78. Dixon improved 7 shots from round one for a two day total of 163 while Hatcher stayed consistent and shot 83-81=164 to secure Second in the Third Flight.
The Fourth Flight was filled with a lot of young talent as young as 11 years old. The girls fought hard for every shot and never gave up with Abby Franks taking first place in the Fourth Flight shooting an 84-83=167. Franks’ 167 was good enough to beat Katie Spurling leaving her in second place in the Fourth Flight.
The Foundation Junior Championship was a great success that could not have happened if it were not for the WSCJGF, Three Pines Country Club and all of their members, the amazing staff and grounds crew at Three Pines, and all of our participants, parents, and volunteers. Thank you again for all your support!
Until next year….
