Update: Colonial Girls Classic

Williamsburg, VA The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour heads north for the 2023 season kick-off at the Colonial Girls Classic at Williamsburg National. Located in historic Williamsburg, VA, The Jamestown Course at Williamsburg National, on land once inhabited by our nation’s first settlers and the Powhatan Indians will welcome a strong field for this late October showdown on the James River. Deemed a “4-star facility” by Golf Digest, and proud former host of the PGA Tour Michelob Championship qualifiers, a bid to the PKBGT Invitational and the PKBGT National Tournament of Champions is on the line for the fifty-six competitors between the two divisions.

 

Bell National

A PKB vet will sleep on a two-shot lead after an opening-round 71 (-1). Lillian McDermott (Yorktown, VA 2025), recorded five birdies and on Saturday afternoon. McDermott went out in 36 with a birdie on the fifth hole. The Yorktown, VA native, added four more blue circles on her back-nine coming home in thirty-five. Lillian closed out her round with two straight birdies. Cailyn Park (Fairfax, VA 2025), Lillian’s nearest competitor, finished day one at 73 (+1). In the final pairing, joining Lillian and Cailyn is Shelby Herbert (Charlotte, MD 2024) at 74 (+2).

Futures National

The 2022 Middle Atlantic Series @ Lake Chesdin GC champion, Mikaila Lamas, and the Middle Atlantic Series @ CC of Woodmore champion, Katherine Yun, take the overnight lead in the Futures National Division. Mikaila Lamas (Vienna, VA 2027) carded four birdies which places her tied for the lead thanks to her opening round of 71 (-1). Katherine Yun (Ashburn, VA 2028) opens with 13 pars to lead her to her first round score of 71 (-1).  Lehr and Yun are searching for their maiden National Series title. Joining Lamas and Yun in the final pairing on a chilly Sunday will be Madison Rizzo (Leesburg, VA 2025) who carded a 74 (+2) for her opening round.

About the PKBGT

Founded in 2007 by Girls Golf of America, a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization, a local girls’ golf tour in the Triad region of North Carolina.  The tour began as a simple concept: create more effective competitive playing opportunities for girls. By utilizing innovative yardage-based divisions instead of the traditional age-based format, the tour focused on developing tournament experience at the player’s pace.
