Recap: Orange Whip Girls Classic

Myrtle Beach, SC The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour headed to Myrtle Beach for the opening round of the Orange Whip Girls Classic at the Long Bay Golf Club

**Update: Due to unplayable course conditions, the final round of the Orange Whip Girls Classic has been cancelled. Medalists will be determined by first scores and a sudden playoff with be played to determine a Bell National champion. Caroline Hawkins won the playoff with a birdie.**

Bell National

The opening round of the Orange Whip Girls Classic avoided potential rainfall on Saturday and three girls took advantage. Caroline Hawkins (Columbia, SC 2026), Gracie James (Pataskala, OH 2024), and Miraya Lurie (Raleigh, NC 2027) all played their first rounds in one-over par to share the lead. Hawkins made two birdies, Lurie made three and James made four to highlight their rounds. Zoey Cho (Suwanee, GA 2025) is the closest competitor to the three on top of the leaderboard. Cho made three birdies in route to an opening 74 (+2) and is just one shot behind the leaders.

Prep Preview

Mia Andrade (Chapin, SC 2025) had the round of the day in the Prep Preview division. The highlight of Andrade’s round was a birdie on the par-4 first hole. Emerson Dever (Murrells Inlet, SC 2025) is right on her tails after making two birdies and playing her first 18 holes in 79 strokes. Also making two birdies during her round was Savannah Sansom (Myrtle Beach, SC 2025) who fired an opening 81 (+9) and is only three of the lead. Aspen Bikowski (White Plains, MD 2027) remains in striking distance after a steady opening round positioned her in fourth place.

Futures National

Katherine Yun (Ashburn, VA 2028) was the only Futures National player to shoot in the 70’s on Saturday. Her two birdies and opening 79 (+7) gave her a five shot overnight lead. Madison Woodrum (Statesboro, GA 2029) is the closest player to Yun. Woodrum shot an opening 84 (+12) which was highlighted by a birdie on the par-5 eleventh hole. Paisley Freda (Cornelius, NC 2027) and Caitlin Ferry (North Myrtle Beach, SC 2025) both played steady rounds on Saturday and sit in third and fourth place respectively.

About the PKBGT

Founded in 2007 by Girls Golf of America, a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization, a local girls’ golf tour in the Triad region of North Carolina.  The tour began as a simple concept: create more effective competitive playing opportunities for girls. By utilizing innovative yardage-based divisions instead of the traditional age-based format, the tour focused on developing tournament experience at the player’s pace.
