Recap: 2021 PKBGT Invitational

Bermuda Run, NC – The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour continued play at the thirteenth annual PKBGT Invitational hosted at Bermuda Run Country Club. Played around Veterans Day weekend every year, the tour’s best compete on the West and East Course over two days, with the top thirty and ties advancing to the East Course’s final round. The PKBGT Invitational has the strongest field of the season every year, and 2021 was no different!

Im Gets it Done!

Sara Im (Duluth, GA 2023) began day three with a five shot lead. When the final putt fell, the Peach State native won the Tour’s elite event by five strokes. Sara’s name is now etched in the history books and joins an illustrious group of winners of the PKBGT Invitational. Im had a rocky start to the final round with a triple bogey on the first hole, but she was determined the take home the hardware this year. She fired 6 birdies, 9 pars, and 2 more bogeys to shoot a final round of 71 (-1) and take home the win.

Macy Pate (Winston-Salem, NC 2024) has been the talk of the town since her stellar round at the West Course during the Central Piedmont 4-A Girls Golf Conference Championships. Pate carded fourteen birdies, and no bogeys to shoot 57 on the Par 71 on the 4,800 Yard setup. Macy’s 57 (-14) had everyone wondering what she would do on the Par 72 6,104 Yard setup. With a round of one-over par on the first day, Pate certainly did not disappoint. After another round of 73 on the East Course on Sunday, that put her in the final pairing for Monday’s final round. A stellar final round of 69 (-3) consisting of 6 birdies, 3 bogeys, and 9 pars, Macy finished in second right behind Sara.

Sara’s rounds of 70 (-2), 70 (-2), and 71 (-1) beat the record for the lowest fifty-four hole total score set by Amanda Sambach (Davidson, NC 2021) at 214 (-2) by 3 shots with a total of 211 (-5).

About the PKBGT

Founded in 2007 by Girls Golf of America, a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization, a local girls’ golf tour in the Triad region of North Carolina.  The Tour began as a simple concept: create more effective competitive playing opportunities for girls. By utilizing innovative yardage-based divisions instead of the traditional age-based format, the Tour focused on developing tournament experience at the player’s pace. The 2020 season will feature over 110 tournaments in 9 states on the East Coast, and with over 1,000 members, the PKBGT is the largest girl’s only Tour in the country.  Learn more about the PKBGT at http://www.pkbgt.org/.
