Recap: Regional Tournament of Champions

Greensboro, NC – On Sunday, November 20th, the Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the final round of the Regional Tournament of Champions at Palmetto Dunes Resort (Arthur Hills Course) in Hilton Head, SC.

Following an excellent first round, players were ready to take on the course, with many in striking distance. Tee time’s began at 7:28 am and players arrived at the practice facilities eager to get the round started and potentially take first place.

At the end of the day, two girls stood atop the leaderboards, each the champion of their division at the Regional Tournament of Champions!

Prep Preview

Rachel Joyce (Southern Pines, NC 2026) started the day in a share of the lead with Sanaa Carter (Jacksonville, NC 2025). Rachel got off to a solid start making the turn in even par and a five shot lead. The gap would close on the back nine with Xinyan Li (Waxhaw, NC 2026) shooting the round of the tournament, 72 (E). Rachel would end up birding the seventeenth hole to clinch the victory. Sanaa and Kasey Cameron (Richmond, KY 2024) made two birdies on the back nine on their way to a third and fourth place finish, respectively. Hannah Barrett (Richmond Hill, GA 2023) stormed up the leaderboard on Sunday making three birdies in four holes and would finish in fifth place.

Futures National

Minyan Ou (Shelby, NC 2028) followed up her 76 on Saturday with another 76 on Sunday! Her Sunday round included birdies on 15 and 16 which helped her to pull away and win the Futures National division by three strokes. Lila Becker (Woodstock, MD 2025) had the shot of the tournament with a hole-out eagle on her final hole of the event. The eagle moved her up to second on the leaderboard. Aspen Bikowski (White Plains, MD 2027) birdied two of her final three holes of the day to move up to third place for the tournament. Overnight leader, Camiryn Jackson (Altamonte Springs, FL 2028), would shoot 86 on Sunday and finish in fourth place. Isabelle LeBlanc (Bethesda, MD  2026) and Sofia Macapagal (Orlando, FL 2028) would end up in a tie for fifth place after both players bettered their first round scores by at least three strokes.

Closing Remarks

We would like to extend our greatest thanks to the entire staff at Palmetto Dunes Resort for their incredible hospitality. This weekend provided a challenge for all of our competitors and we would like to congratulate all of our medalists at the 2022 Regional Tournament of Champions!

Founded in 2007 by the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization, as a local girls’ golf tour in the Triad region of North Carolina, the tour began as a simple concept: create more effective competitive playing opportunities for girls. By utilizing innovative yardage-based divisions instead of the traditional age-based format, the tour focused on developing tournament experience at the player’s pace.
