Update: Kiawah Resort Girls Classic

Kiawah Island, SC- The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour began the annual Kiawah Resorts Girls Classic at Oak Point Golf Course on a brisk January morning with a talented field representing seven states.

Continuing her great play from December, Sydney Yermish (Wynnewood, PA 2023), the 2020 PKBGT National Tournament of Champions medalist, takes the overnight lead of the Kiawah Girls Classic after an opening-round 71 (-1). Yermish, wintering in Pinehurst, carded four birdies on the day, including back-to-back birdies on the final two holes to come in at 33 (-3). Sydney was just one of six players to close the day with a blue circle. Yermish was within striking distance in her last event at the PKB Junior right after the Christmas holiday before struggling on the final day of play. Currently #10 in the PKBGT PINDEX and #1 in the Bell National Order of Merit race, Yermish has the defending champion and UNC-G signee, Grace Holcomb (Wilmington, NC 2021), at (+1) for the tournament. Joining Holcomb and Yermish in the final pairing will be Maggie Jackson (Tallulah Falls, GA 2021) at (+3).

Futures National

Caroline Hawkins (Columbia, SC 2026), the first two-time Futures National Champion of the 2020-2021 wraparound season, has her eyes set on the Palmetto Coast after her opening round 74 (+2). Hawkins, the champion at the Atlanta Girls Classic and the Georgia Highlands Girls Classic, carded two birdies on the day. The Columbia, SC native struggled coming home with bogeys on seventeen and eighteen, but her round was good enough to hold the overnight lead on a young but talented field. Megan Adelman (Bryn Mawr, PA 2023) and Mia Andrade (Chapin, SC 2025) hold the second place position at (+4).

About the PKBGT

Founded in 2007 by Girls Golf of America, a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization, a local girls’ golf tour in the Triad region of North Carolina.  The tour began as a simple concept: create more effective competitive playing opportunities for girls. By utilizing innovative yardage-based divisions instead of the traditional age-based format, the tour focused on developing tournament experience at the player’s pace.
