Update: Coastal Carolina Classic

Conway, SC- The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls Golf Tour evaded a questionable weekend forecast to begin the Coastal Carolina Classic at the Hackler Course at Coastal Carolina. The Hackler, known locally as the “Hack” was in tip-top shape for the largest field to date for a national event. Luscious fairways, pristine bunkers, pillow-like putting surfaces, and temperatures in the 80’s combined to create excellent scoring conditions.

Congratulations to Kate Nyers (Mt. Pleasant, SC 2022) who recorded her first-ever hole-in-one this afternoon! Kate holed out on the very difficult par-3 seventh. Besides Nyers ace, there were just two birdies in the entire field.

Bell National

Leading the Bell National field is Kiera Bartholomew (Wake Forest, NC 2023) after a round that included an eagle on the first hole, and four birdies to finish at 68 (-4). The Wake Forest native missed the cut in her last start at the PKBGT Open Championship in late May. Bartholomew’s last victory on the PKBGT circuit was at the Delaware Valley Series Finale at Raven’s Claw back in September of 2019. Kiera holds a two-shot overnight lead over McKenzie Daffin (Fayetteville, NC 2021) and Kaia Wu (Princeton, NJ 2022). Amber Mackiewicz (Virginia Beach, VA 2023) was the other score under par in round one with a (-1) 71 thanks to a strong back-nine where she birdied three holes including back-to-back birds on 15 and 16.

About the PKBGT

Founded in 2007 by Girls Golf of America, a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization, as a local girls’ golf tour in the Triad region of North Carolina.  The tour began as a simple concept: create more effective competitive playing opportunities for girls. By utilizing innovative yardage-based divisions instead of the traditional age-based format, the tour focused on developing tournament experience at the player’s pace. The 2020 season will feature over 1110 tournaments in 9 states on the East Coast, and with over 1,000 members, the PKBGT is the largest girl’s only tour in the country.  Learn more about the PKBGT at http://www.pkbgt.org/.
