Update: Round 1 Palmetto Classic at Cobblestone Park GC

The PKBGT was back action March 3-4, 2018 with the Palmetto Classic at Cobblestone GC in Blythewood, SC.  The event features 58 players of the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the largest “girls-only” junior golf tour in the country. They will tackle the course at 5,780 yards in the Bell National and Prep Preview divisions.Pine Needles Lodge & GC

The Palmetto Classic is the fifth tournament of the Women’s Health Classic Junior Challenge presented by the Self Regional Healthcare Foundation. The Challenge will consist of 7 events between January and March 2018 and be operated by the Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour. The first 6 pre-qualifying events will be open to any PKBGT member and will qualify PKBGT Bell National players for the Junior Challenge Qualifier on March 24-25, 2018 at the Links at Stoney Point. The champion of the qualifier will receive the sponsor exemption* (qualifying player must have a USGA handicap index of 3.7 or better to be granted the exemption). After round 1 of the Palmetto Classic at Cobblestone Park GC, Abigail Schimpf (Daniel Island, SC 2020) leads the Bell National Series with a posted an impressive score of 1-under par 71. Only one stroke behind the lead at even par, 72, is Alexandra Swayne (Maineville, OH 2018). Currently sitting in third place is Kayla Smith  (Burlington, NC 2019) with a first round score of 73. Currently in a 4-way tie for fourth place are Jayla Rogers (Wilmington, NC 2019), Savannah Hylton (Hilton Head Island, NC 2021), Caroline Curtis (Richmond, VA 2019) and Megan Furtney (South Elgin, IL 2019) after a first round score of 74. It is going to be an exciting finish for Round 2!

In the Prep Preview division, play was suspended due to darkness. Round 1 of the Prep Preview division will be completed tomorrow morning (Sunday, March 4) with Round 2 to follow.

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers. Based out of Greensboro, North Carolina, the PKBGT offers low cost, nationally ranked girls’ golf tournaments designed to prepare junior girls’ golfers for high school and collegiate golf.
