Preview: PKB Foundation Classic at The Country Club of North Carolina

The PKBGT returns to action January 27-28, 2018 with the PKB Foundation Classic at The Country Club of North Carolina in Pinehurst, NC.  The event will feature 72 players of the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the largest “girls-only” junior golf tour in the country. They will tackle the course at 5,756 yards in the Bell National division and 5,114 yards in the Futures National division.Pine Needles Lodge & GC

The PKB Foundation Classic is the second tournament of the Women’s Health Classic Junior Challenge presented by the Self Regional Healthcare Foundation. The Challenge will consist of 7 events between January 20 – March 10, 2018 and be operated by the Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour. The first 6 pre-qualifying events will be open to any PKBGT member and will qualify PKBGT Bell National players for the Junior Challenge Qualifier on March 24-25, 2018 at the Links at Stoney Point. The champion of the qualifier will receive the sponsor exemption* (qualifying player must have a USGA handicap index of 3.7 or better to be granted the exemption).

The Bell National Series features a strong field of 42 players from 9 different states.  Featured in the Bell National Series are Katherine Schuster (Kill Devil Hills, NC 2021), Rory Weinfurther (Midlothian, VA 2020), Nicole Adam (Pinehurst, NC 2020), and Riley Smyth (Cary, NC 2018). Katherine is currently ranked 4th on the Bell Series Order of Merit for the 2018 season.  She also finished top-10 in both the PKB Tournament of Champions and the PKB Junior.  Rory is currently ranked 6th on the Bell Series Order of Merit for the 2018 season. She finished top-15 in her last three PKBGT tournaments: the PKB Invitational, the PKB Tournament of Champions, and the PKB Junior.  Nicole is currently ranked 7th on the Bell Series Order of Merit for the 2018 season. She finished tied for 2nd place at the PKB Junior and top-10 at the PKB Tournament of Champions. Riley is currently ranked 8th on the Bell Series Order of Merit. Riley finished top-20 in the PKB Invitational and the PKB Tournament of Champions. Each player looks to continue their success this weekend at the PKB Foundation Classic!

The Futures National Series features 30 players from 6 different states. Featured in the Futures National Series are Amber Mackiewicz (Virginia Beach, VA 2023), Sarah Shao (Green Brook, NJ 2024) and Elizabeth Lohbauer (Huntersville, NC 2021), and Toni Blackwell (Fayetteville, NC 2020).  Each player is currently ranked in the top-5 of the Futures National Order of Merit and had a top finish at the PKB Junior back in December. Amber is currently ranked T3 on the Futures National Order of Merit. She also finished T3 at the PKB Junior. Sarah is currently ranked T3 on the Futures National Order of Merit, and she also finished T3 at the PKB Junior. Elizabeth is currently ranked T5 on the Futures National Order of Merit, and she finished T5 at the PKB Junior. Toni is currently ranked T5 on the Futures National Order of Merit, and she also finished T5 at the PKB Junior. Each player looks to continue their success this weekend at the PKB Foundation Classic!

The PKB Foundation Classic will take place on Saturday and Sunday the 27-28 of January beginning at 9:00am both days.  As always, we look forward to a great event!

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers.
