Preview: North Carolina Series Finale at Colonial CC

The storm has passed, the course is dry and we are back to golf! This Saturday-Sunday, September 22-23, the Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour plays the North Carolina Series Finale event at Colonial CC in Thomasville, NC.

The NC One-Day Series included 11 One-Day tournaments in North Carolina, concluding this weekend with a two-day Series Finale. These events offer innovative yardage-based divisions to girls aged 9-17. The PKBGT Series Progression allows players to progress towards playing collegiate golf by playing yardage/skill appropriate tournaments as they develop their game.

One-day tournaments are designed for golfers of all skill levels, but are a great place for development golfers to “get in to the swing of things” playing tournament golf. The goal of the One-Day Open Series events is to provide a fun and friendly tournament on a premium golf course. The North Carolina Series Finale at Colonial CC features a field of 57 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour.

Prep Series

Our featured pairing in the 30 player Prep Series field includes 3 of the top-5 ranked players on the Prep NC Order of Merit. Maria Atwood (Holly Springs, NC 2022), Mara Hirtle (Pinehurst, NC 2020) and Carson Jenkins (Raleigh, NC 2019) start Round 1 on the first tee at 10:48AM. Maria is currently ranked 1st on the Prep NC Order of Merit after a 1st place finish at the Gate City Classic at Forest Oaks CC. She finished in the top-3 at all four NC One-Day events she competed in this season. Mara is currently ranked 2nd on the Prep NC Order of Merit and finished T2 at the NC One-Day Series at Statesville CC, adding to her five top-10 finishes in 2018. Carson recently jumped up five spots to her current 4th place ranking on the Prep NC Order of Merit. She finished T2 at the NC One-Day Series at Pinehurst No. 1 and has yet to finish outside of the top-10 in a NC One-Day event.

Futures Series

Key names to watch in the 16 player Futures Series include Tyler Spriggs (Cary, NC 2023), Anna Claire Bridge (Raleigh, NC 2021) and Heather Appelson (Wake Forest, NC 2023). The threesome is set to start off the first tee at 12:36PM. Tyler is currently ranked 1st on the Futures NC Order of Merit and finished 1st at the NC One-Day Series at Longleaf G&FC, topping the best of three top-5 finishes in the 2018 campaign. Anna Claire is currently ranked 3rd on the Futures NC Order of Merit and finished 1st in her most recent NC One-Day Series event at Maple Chase G&CC to go along with her 4th place finish at the NC One-Day Series at Mill Creek in early June. Heather is currently ranked 4th on the Futures NC Order of Merit and finished 1st at the Gate City Classic at Forest Oaks CC as she one-upped her previous best 2nd place finish at the NC One-Day Series at Longleaf G&FC.

Discovery Series

Our final pairing of the day comes from the 11 player Discovery Series field. Ellen Yu (High Point, NC 2025), Madison Dial (High Point, NC 2025) and Sanaa Carter (Jacksonville, NC 2025) are set to tee off of hole one at 1:21 PM. Ellen is currently ranked 1st on the Discovery NC Order of Merit and has 4 wins with the PKB this season. She scored an impressive -6 finish at the NC One-Day Series at Bermuda Run CC (West). Madison, currently ranked 3rd on the Discovery NC Order of Merit, finished 1st at the NC One-Day Series at Monroe CC. One highlight of her season was an incredible Eagle on the final hole of her 3rd place finish at the NC One-Day Series at Mill Creek. Sanaa is currently ranked 4th on the Discovery NC Order of Merit and finished 2nd at the NC One-Day Series at Bermuda Run CC (West).

Everyone looks to continue their success at the North Carolina Series Finale at Colonial CC! Awards will be presented to the top-5 finishers in the Prep and Futures Series, and the top-3 in the Discovery Series. We look forward to a great event!
