Recap: NC One-Day Series at Pine Island CC

On Monday, July 16th, the 2018 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the North Carolina One-Day Series event at Pine Island Country Club.

The NC One-Day Series will include 11 One-Day tournaments in North Carolina, concluding with a two-day Series Finale at the end of the season. These events offer innovative yardage-based divisions to girls aged 9-17. The PKBGT Series Progression allows players to progress towards playing collegiate golf by playing yardage/skill appropriate tournaments as they develop their game.

One-day tournaments are designed for golfers of all skill levels, but are a great place for development golfers to “get in to the swing of things” playing tournament golf. The goal of One-Day Open Series events is to provide a fun and friendly tournament on a premium golf course. The North Carolina One-Day Series event  at Pine Island CC featured a field of 24 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour.

There was a two-way tie for 1st place in the Prep Series. The Champion of the Prep Series is Sophie Holland (Cornelius, NC 2020) with a score of 75 and she won the sudden death playoff. Sophie also had a hole-in-one on the par 3, #13! Finishing runner-up, also with a score of 75 is Alyssa Cox (Mount Airy, NC 2019). Anna McDonald (Hickory, NC 2019) finished in 3rd place with a score of 76. Amber Capote (Waxhaw, NC 2020) finished in 4th place with a score of 82.

The Champion of the Futures Series is Anna Howerton (Kernersville, NC 2023) with a score of 76. Finishing runner-up with a score of 82 is Bethany Welch (Matthews, NC 2023). Olivia Peterson (Summerfield, NC 2022) finished in 3rd place with a score of 91. Carmen Cary (Waxhaw, NC 2021) finished in 4th place also with a score of 91.

The Champion of the Discovery Series is Ellen Yu (High Point, NC 2025) with a score of 1-over par, 36. There was a two-way tie for 2nd place. Winning the scorecard playoff and finishing runner-up with a score of 46 is Landry Hamm (Charlotte, NC 2027). Edie-Raine Hardee (Gilbert, SC 2023) finished in 3rd place also with a score of 46.

The PKBGT is back in action this weekend, July 21-22, with 3 events: ProQuip Classic at Lonnie Poole GC at NC State University, MA One-Day Series at The Hollows GC, and SC One-Day Series at CC of Lexington. We look forward to a great weekend!
