Update: Tar Heel Classic at UNC Chapel Hill Finley GC

The PKBGT is back in action this weekend, March 10-11, with a full field of 90 girls on the UNC Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.  One of the most popular events on the tour schedule, the Tar Heel Classic attracts one of the largest and strongest fields of the season.

The Tar Heel Classic is the sixth and final pre-qualifying tournament of the Women’s Health Classic Junior Challenge presented by the Self Regional Healthcare Foundation. The Challenge will consist of 7 events between January and March 2018 and be operated by the Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour. The first 6 pre-qualifying events will be open to any PKBGT member and will qualify PKBGT Bell National players for the Junior Challenge Qualifier on March 24-25, 2018 at the Links at Stoney Point. The champion of the qualifier will receive the sponsor exemption* (qualifying player must have a USGA handicap index of 3.7 or better to be granted the exemption). Leading the Bell National Division after round 1 is Lexanne Halama (Knoxville, TN 2021) with an impressive score of 2-under par 69. Currently in a three-way tie for second place with a score of 1-under par, 70, are Rylie Heflin (Avondale, PA 2021), Abigail Schimpf (Daniel Island, SC 2020) and Katherine Schuster (Kill Devil Hills, NC 2021). In a three-way tie for 5th place is Madison Isaacson (Greensboro, NC 2018), Paris Fieldings (Suffolk, VA 2023) and Emma Schimpf (Daniel Island, SC 2021) all with a score of even par 72.

Leading the Prep Preview Series after round 1 is Christina Lewis (Wexford, PA 2019) with a score of 3-over par, 74. Currently in second place with a score of 76 is Gabrielle Shieh (Carlisle, MA 2020). In a two-way tie for third place with a score of 77 is Maja Toth (Budapest, Hungary 2020) and Halynn Lee (Cary, NC 2021). Currently in a five-way tie for fifth place with a score of 78 is Jayla Rogers (Wilmington, NC 2019), Mara Hirtle (Pinehurst, NC 2020), Kelley Topiwala (Matthews, NC 2020), Angelique Seymour (Fayetteville, NC 2019) and Lauren Martin (Mooresville, NC 2020).

Leading the Futures Series after round 1 is Liza Lapeyre (New Orleans, LA 2022) with a score of 3-over, 74. Currently in second place with a score of 75 is Julie Shin (Brambleton, VA 2022). Sitting in third place with a score of 78 is Katelyn Kenthack (Pinehurst, NC 2020). Currently in fourth place with a score of 79 is Amber Capote (Waxhaw, NC 2020). And in a five-way tie for 5th place are McKenzie Daffin (Fort Bragg, NC2021), Abby Hunter (Blacksburg, VA 2021), Macy Pate (Boone, NC  2023), Anika Bhatnagar (Cary, NC 2020) and Laney Wessels (Sophia, NC 2021) all with a score of 80.

It is going to be an exciting finish at round 2 of the Tar Heel Classic at UNC Chapel Hill Finley GC. We look forward to a great event!

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers.
