On Saturday, March 18, the Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the first round of the Palmetto Classic at Cobblestone Park Golf Club. Cobblestone, home of the University of South Carolina-Columbia Gamecocks golf teams, is a beautiful course for this two-day tournament. The event features a field of 53 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour.
In the Bell Division, after round one, Emily Hawkins (Lexington, NC 2018) is leading the field by four strokes at one under par with a score of 69. Not far behind Hawkins is Jalen Castle (West Columbia, SC 2020) at three over par with a score of 73. Alyssa Montgomery (Knoxville, TN 2019) takes the third place spot with a first round score of 76. And, tied for fourth on the day was Moon Cheong (Charlotte, NC 2017) and Anna Freeman (Aiken, SC 2017) who both shot 77.
In the Prep Division, after round one, Mary Kathryn Talledo (Blythewood, SC 2021) is leading the field by two strokes with a score of 81. Tied for second was Tatum McKelvey (Sewickley, PA 2019) and Ana Tsiros (Asheville, NC 2019) with a score of 83. Coming in a close fourth on the day was Alexis Jarrell with a first round score of 84.
Weather for Sunday’s round looks sunny with temperatures in the high 50s and low 60s. It should be a exciting conclusion to the second event of March Mania!
The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers.
