Peggy Kirk Bell Girls Golf Tour hosts Winston Open at Bermuda Run GC

Sarah Spicer shoots 73 in route to victory

Advance, NC – The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour hosted the Winston Open at Bermuda Run GC West Course on Friday and Sarah Spicer of Bahama, NC fired a two over par 73 to win by 3 shots over Ashlii Thompson of Browns Summit, NC.

After shooting one under par on the front Spicer found herself one shot ahead of Thompson, but the back nine with 500 more yards of green grass was ahead of her. Holding off the long hitter Thompson would be a challenge, but after the 15th hole Spicer’s consistent play was enough to put her in the drivers seat. Further distancing herself from the field, the well composed Spicer executed a great up and down from the sand on 18 earning her another first place finish.

Spicer commented after the round, “I played great on the front and made the turn with one birdie and no bogeys. It was nice to regain my rhythm after back to back bogeys to start the inward nine, and after Ashlii gave me a little more breathing room with her double on fifteen, I stayed focus on making pars and ended up making a great up and down on 18 making the win even sweeter.

The win continues to prove the depth of talent within the tour as Spicer moved up in May to play in the longer yardage, Bell division. As a 2016 grad, she still has a lot of years left to develop on the tour and if the present is any indicator, a lot of titles may end up in her trophy case.

Following Spicer and Thompson were Jessica Spicer of Bahama, NC with 78, Meagan Board of Roanoke, VA with 80 and Morgan Brock of High Point, NC and Tessa Davis of Asheboro, NC with 82’s.

The Futures division saw great play as well with Grace Yatawara of Salisbury, NC posting a 76 to win by three shots. Following her was Grace Massengil of Hickory, NC at 79, Megan Munroe of Reaford, NC at 80, Sophie Riegel of Cary, NC at 81, and Brittany Smith of Stanley, NC at 82.

The PKB’s next event will be at Chapel Hill Country Club this Monday. Over 20 girls are expected to compete.
