Update: Exciting Day at 2016 LPGA-USGA Girls Golf Team Championship

On Friday, July 8, the 2016 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the first round of the LPGA-USGA Girls Golf Team Championship at Golden Horseshoe Golf Club (Green Course) in Williamsburg, VA. The course has served as host to multiple college events and is a great course for this  two-day tournament for the Futures and Discovery divisions. The event features a field 36 players from 17 different LPGA-USGA Girls Golf Programs across the country.

The first round of the tournament was a Team Choice Scramble where each player hit then played from their preferred shot. In the Championship Division, Amanda Sambach (Davidson, NC 2021) and Kendall Turner (Chesapeake, VA 2019) are leading the field by three strokes at eight under par with a score of 64. In the Futures Division, Parker Perry (Richmond, VA 2020) and Bailey Vaughn (Glendale, AV 2022) are leading the field by eight strokes at one under par with a score of 71. In the Discovery Division, Savannah Hawkins (Hurricane, WV 2024) and Taylor Sargent (Milton, WV 2023) are leading the field by one stroke atone under par with a score of 35.

The second round of the event will be a Four Ball Stroke Play where each player plays her own ball and the lower score of the two players is the team score each hole. Weather for Saturday round looks beautiful with sunny skies and temperatures in the low 90s. It should be a great day for the final round of the LPGA-USGA Girls Golf Team Championship.
