On Sunday, May 28, the 2016 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the second round of the PKBGT BELL OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS at Country Club of Salisbury. Salisbury, home of the Catawba College women’s golf team, is a tricky Donald Ross layout for this 54-hole championship. The event features a field 45 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour The event, ranked by the GolfWeek/Titliest national rankings, is the third championship event of the 2016 PKBGT season.
After 36 holes, Callista Rice (Mars Hill, 2017) is leading the field following a 3-under par 68 in round two. Rice sits in first place with a 146 total. One shot back is Kathryn Carson (Mooresville, NC 2017) with two solid rounds of 75-72-147. First round leader Lauren Freyvogel (Gibsonia, PA 2019) sits four shots back (150) in third place along with three other players, Emily Hawkins, (Lexington, NC 2018) Riley Smyth (Cary, NC 2018) and Holly McCann (Raleigh, NC 2019).

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers. Based out of Greensboro, North Carolina, the PKBGT offers affordable, high-quality nationally ranked girls’ golf tournaments designed to prepare junior girls’ golfers for high school and collegiate golf.
