Preview: Palmetto Classic at USC

On Saturday-Sunday, March 21-22, the 2015 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour plays the Palmetto Classic at Cobblestone Park Golf Club. Cobblestone, home of the University of South Carolina women’s golf team, is a beautiful course for this two-day tournament. The event features a field 58 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 425 members in 2014 and over 350 girls playing in or committed to collegiate golf.

The Prep Series field features 31 golfers, highlighted by 2014 defending champion, Jensen Castle (West Columbia, SC 2019), and 9 of the top-50 players on the PKBGT Performance Index, including: Payton Schanen (Milton, GA 2015) ranked 12th, Caroline Curtis (Richmond, VA 2019) ranked 14th, Callista Rice (Mars Hill, NC 2017) ranked 15th, Samantha Vodry (Mooresville, NC 2016) ranked 21st, Kathryn Carson (Mooresville, NC 2017) ranked 27th, Castle ranked 35th, Baylee Evans (Lancaster, SC 2018) ranked 43rd, Caroline Cahill (Wilmington, NC 2017) ranked 46th, and Grace Massengill (Hickory, NC 2016) ranked 50th. Other standout players in the field include: Lauren Lightfritz (Suwanee, GA 2016) and Alissa Yang (Norcross, GA 2017)

The Futures Series field features 27 golfers, highlighted by seven of the top-20 players on the 2015 PKBGT Order of Merit lists, including: Emily Anderson (Matthews, NC 2017) in 4th position, Madison Cross (Hickory, NC 2016) in 8th position, Anna Morgan (Spartanburg, SC 2019) in 10th position, Muskan Uppal (Cornelius, NC 2019) in 11th position, Parker Melting (Mint Hill, NC 2018) in 13th position, Bryson Bowman (Summerfield, NC 2017) in 15th position, and Jayla Rogers (Wilmington, NC 2019) in 19th position.

The Palmetto Classic brings together players from Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, Ontario, Canada, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Virginia. It should be a great event!

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers. Based out of Greensboro, North Carolina, the PKBGT offers low cost, nationally ranked girls’ golf tournaments designed to prepare junior girls’ golfers for high school and collegiate golf.
